‘FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, I WILL BE COOKING WITH GAS’, BENEFICIARY MAKES EMOTION-LADEN CONFESSION AS IKORODU COUNCIL CHAIR GIFTS 500 COOKING GAS TO INDIGENT RESIDENTS

Mr. Kamorudeen Ijelu, an indigene of Ikorodu community, confessed to Ikorodu Oga Radio, that he has never used a cooking gas cylinder prior to benefitting from the 500 cooking gas cylinder distribution initiative, sponsored by Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina.

The distribution exercise took place yesterday at the open arena of the council Secretariat in Ikorodu.

In his words; ‘I have never used a gas cylinder in my life. We still cook with stove in my house, till today. But, Hon Adeshina has now changed the cooking experience in my house through this free gas distribution exercise. We will be doing our Christmas cooking with the new gas’, he joyfully disclosed.

Mr Ijelu’s confession is a reflection of hundreds of beneficiaries of the free gas distribution exercise who are majorly the vulnerable members of the society.

In his brief remarks at the presentation, Adeshina reiterated the commitment of his administration to putting smiles on the faces of Ikorodu indigenes and residents.

He equally implored the beneficiaries to make good use of the gas cylinders are pre-filled and it has capacity to last for 15 years.

‘As the Executive Chairman of our esteemed Local government, it is my responsibility to heed the call of our community in recognizing the need to put smiles on the faces of our people’.

‘My administration has collaborated with Smart Gas company, to provide home cooking gas cylinders as a palliative measure to cushion the impact of the fuel subsidy removal in our country. This distribution initiative is not only aimed at alleviating immediate challenges, but is also aimed at empowering residents, particularly women, to enable them contribute to the economic growth of our community’, he added.

Speaking further, Adeshina disclosed that, ‘the distribution of these gas cylinders is a practical step towards providing a healthier, more convenient and environmentally friendly cooking solution, reducing health risks related with smoke inhalation, carbon emissions and curbing deforestation’.

‘This exemplifies our commitment to giving back and ensuring our people receive the dividend of democracy.
To all beneficiaries, I urge you to maximize the benefits of this cooking cylinder’, he concluded.

Hon Adeshina noted that, his administration has previously distributed palliatives such as food items, supported education through GCE forms and granted bursary awards to deserving beneficiaries.

Also speaking on the sideline of the presentation, Managing Director of Smart Gas Limited, Mrs Yinka Okpeke commended Adeshina for supporting the indigent members of the council area, through the gas initiative.

She further appreciated the Council Chairman for partnering the company’s campaign against carbon emissions, through the company’s ‘Thrash to Gas’ campaign.

She however advised beneficiaries to be safety conscious and ensure children are not allowed to operate

APC Chieftains and traditional heads who witnessed the presentation commended Adeshina for his continued support for the less privileged across the council area.
