2025 COUNCIL POLLS: NATIONAL ASSEMBLY LEGISLATIVE AIDE COUNSELS APC LEADERS TO RETURN ONLY PERFORMING FIRST-TERM CHAIRMEN

Alert “2025 Lagos State LG/LCDA election…”

Though, it is still well over one year to the local government elections in Lagos State, interested stakeholders have continued to raise important issues of concerns ahead of the party primaries that would produce candidates for the much-anticipated election.

Senior Legislative Aide to Rep Member, representing Epe Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Bashir Oluwakemi Hassan a.k.a Bashexy has equally lent his voice on the need for performance to be the yardstick for handing serving Council Chairmen a second term ticket in office.

Hassan shared his view with Ikorodu Oga Radio and is reproduced below.

Why re-electing most of the Chairmen won’t be appropriate for us in Lagos State.. General Bashexy

Looking towards 2027 General election…

Allowing underperformers LG/LCDA Chairmen to continue in office can perpetuate inefficiency, lack of trust in the political system and can also kill grassroot governance / politics.

The performance of a political office holder should indeed be a key factor in determining their re-election. Good performance demonstrates accountability, effectiveness, responsiveness to constituents’ needs, and the ability to fulfill the duties of the office. It reflects a commitment to serving the public and achieving positive outcomes for society. We have to ensure that those in power are of high standards and that the electorate’s interests are prioritized. This would obviously have effect on the 2027 General election.

In addition all underperforming political office holders should be barred from holding any future political positions.

Especially those that lack accountability and those who don’t deliver on their political / Governance promises and responsibilities.

Therefore, our “Political Leaders” must consider past performances and antecedents when deciding whether to re-elect any of the chairmen… I would have used “Party Members” or “Voters” but I don’t want to deceive myself because I also know at this level it is always about “Our Political Leaders”, Mr Governor, Deputy Governor and some Legislative Members.

This wake-up call is not meant to witch-hunts a particular Chairman, As we all know many of them are on this table.
