CENTRAL MOTOR PARK, LEGISLATIVE BUILDING, OTHER PROJECTS TOP IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT 2024 N2.2 BILLION BUDGET PRESENTATION

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has listed some of the major projects that would be given topmost priorities in the 2024 Ikorodu Local Government fiscal year.

Adeshina gave this hint on Friday, during the presentation of the 2024 budget estimates to the Councils Legislators at their legislative chambers in Ikorodu.

The budget themed, Budget of Uncommon Growth, according Adeshina would facilitate the delivery of more capital projects to the good people of the council area.

He said, ‘Our major focus with renewed energy for the year 2024 includes the establishment of a central motor park, the construction of a befitting legislative chamber for our legislators and sustained empowerment programmes for the youth, elderly, widows, and women’.

‘Similarly, our on-going construction of computer and ICT Centre at the Ita Elewa open space would also be completed within the budget cycle’, Adeshina assured.

Other projects highlighted in the budget were construction and rehabilitation of more inner roads, the light-up Ikorodu project and the provision of computer units in the 16 primary schools in the council area’.

Reflecting on the 2023 budget performance, Adeshina noted that, ‘the 2023 budget can be said to have been fulfilling, with over 75% of the set targets in areas of Health, Education, Youth Empowerments and Training, Sport Development, and Social Development achieved’.

He listed some of the major projects implemented through the 2023 budget to include, the complete renovation of Agura Primary Health Centre (PHC), the total rehabilitation of the Ikorodu Secretariat compound with landscaping, interlocking stones, distribution of GCE forms to indigent students and flag-off of Otambala Road, Aga.

Adeshina added that his administration also embarked on the presentation of official vehicles to Supervisors and Councillors, the establishment of the Local Joint Task Force (JTF) for community policing, presentation of Bursary Award to Undergraduates students and the donation of notebooks and school bags to primary and secondary school students in the council.

Others were the construction of a block of five classrooms at Salvation Army Primary School, on-going rehabilitation of Otambala/Odugate Road, Aga Ikorodu, on-going construction of ICT Centre at Ita-Elewa open space, training of youths on digital marketing, the provision of medical facilities, and periodic maintenance of PHCs.

He noted that his administration was able to prosecute women major welfare programmes for the benefits of residents.

Some of these projects listed were, distribution of food items and cooking gas cylinders as palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on residents.

The proposed 2024 budget estimate has a total projected revenue of Two Billion, Two Hundred and Forty Nine Million, Nine Hundred and Ninety Seven Thousand, and Fifty Seven Naira Only.

According to the proposed budget, federal allocation is projected at N677,390,000.00, VAT N1,317,010,000.00, and other FAAC-related allocations, culminating in a total revenue budget size of N2,249,997,057.10.

The 2024 expenditure layout covers staff salaries, political office holders’ salary and allowances, pension costs, and overhead/operating expenditures among others.

Hon. Adesina expressed the commitment of his administration to diligent implementation of the proposed budget once passed into law.

He maintained that the proposed budget is aimed at sustaining the delivery of more dividends of democracy to the good of Ikorodu local government.

The Council Boss concluded by appreciating the legislative arm for their support in steering the wheel of the Council in the right direction.

Responding, the Leader of the House, Hon. Adebowale Adebola, and his colleagues assured the Chairman of the speedy passage of the bill to ensure the good people of Ikorodu continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
