Over 500 residents of Ikorodu Local Government today benefitted from the food palliative support sponsored by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu o further cushion the effects of the current economic hardships on Lagosians.
Other beneficiaries were the aged, unemployed youths, widows, etc.
The beneficiaries who were majorly vulnerable members of the community and drawn from various groups across the council area were residents from wards A to G, People Living With Disabilities, Community Development Association (CDAs), the traditional groups, Arewa Group among others have commended Sanwo-Olu for extending support to them during this crucial period.
The distribution exercise was witnessed by representatives of Baales, APC Chieftains and other community stakeholders.
The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina, on the sideline of the exercise has commended Sanwo-Olu for not forgetting the people at the grassroots in their hardships.
‘Today’s programme was a directive from His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State to provide palliatives for the citizens. This is happening all over the 57 local governments in Lagos State’ he said.
‘I want to appreciate His Excellency for bringing up this brilliant idea. The Ramadan Eid-el-Fitri celebration is coming up and this measure will go a long way to alleviate the current economic hardship and we want to appreciate the Governor’, he added.
‘To the people, they should continue to embrace the good governance in Lagos State and I want to advice them to continue to support the APC at all levels so that the dividends of democracy would continue to come their way’.
Adeshina however advised residents to celebrate in a controlled manner.
‘They should not consume alcohol and continue to imbibe the doctrines of Islam which prohibits alcohol and other menace, so that the 30 days fasting would dwell in us for a very long time’, he concluded.
Similarly, a former Commissioner for Rural Development in Lagos State, Hon Lanre Balogun praised the Governor for having the poor masses on his mind.
‘My message is just to say thank you to Mr Governor. In the society, we have the poor of the poor, people finding it very difficult to survive in this economy. We want to thank the President for his current programmes. We can see that the dollar is falling. Many thought the exchange rate would continue to rise, but as it is falling, prices of commodities in the market would also start reducing. This is why we must thank the Governor for coming in at this time to give palliatives to the poor individuals’.
Balogun equally applauded Hon Adeshina for the method employed by the local government, describing it as laudable; by taking the distribution through ward by ward, CDA by CDA even the market women groups, etc.
The Ikorodu Local Government CDA Chairman, Com and Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Central, Princess Adebukola Osho also commended Sanwo-Olu for bringing succour to the poor masses and market men and women respectively.
