Though the much publicized week-long Ipakodo Day Celebrations has ended, the many milestones recorded at the event will remain indelible in the annals of the history of the ancient community.One of the major milestones was the formal unveiling of the Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame by the Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr) Basiru Aremu Sotonwa.
Speaking before the unveiling of the two inductees of the award, Oba Sotonwa stressed that it was a platform created to honour and immortalize heroes and heroines of Ipakodo town who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the community.Clarifying, Oba Sotonwa stressed that the Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame was not only meant to honour past rulers of the community but, is meant to honour every individual who contributes to the community’s development.
Unveiling the maiden inductees into the Hall-of-Fame, First Baale of Ipakodo, Late Chief Jinadu Shotonwa Animashaun, who incidentally was the monarch’s grand-father and the first Sekumade, Oba Lasisi Rabiu Hassan Jimbo, Oba Sotonwa noted that though the Hall-of-Fame started with two inductees, it would still honour indigenes of the town, whose contributions to the development of the community is worthy of emulation.
Concluding, the monarch stated that the community would soon embark on building the Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame as a purpose-built hall where upcoming generations of Ipakodo would see photographs and read about the exploits of past Ipakodo heroes and heroines.
Joining Oba Sekumade in unveiling the Hall-of-Fame were the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiu Orimadegun Kasali, Obateru of Egbin Kingdom, Oba Akeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo, Eweye of Isiu, Oba David Raji Balogun and Oba Elias Ijelu, Olota of Ota-Ikosi.
They were also assisted by the Chairman of Ipakodo Development Association (I.D.A), Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa and Prince Dr Taiwo Hassan Jimbo, first son of the first Sekumade of Ipakodo.
