SENATOR ABIRU LAUNCHES QUARTERLY ‘FOOD PACKS’ OUTREACH, 6,000 VULNERABLE CONSTITUENTS BENEFIT

Not less than 6,000 vulnerable members of the Lagos East Senatorial District yesterday benefitted from the Quarterly Food support initiative for the indigents launched by the Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru, FCA representing Lagos East Senatorial District at the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

According to the retired Managing Director of Polaris Bank PLC, the initiative, dubbed Senator Abiru Food Packs was launched as a platform for reaching out to the needy in the District.

Abiru further explained that, having embarked on several infrastructural and economic empowerment interventions for his constituents, he realized that there was still the need to provide support to those in the lower class of the society, namely the aged, widows, unemployed and physically challenged individuals across the Lagos East, who are mostly affected by the current economic hardship in the country.

‘ I’ve procured this level of aid because we can’t ignore that things are a little difficult today in this country, which is not just happening only in Nigeria but across the world. Some of the challenges resulted due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. This welfare assistance is based on my capacity to help our people and to let them understand that we will continue to provide them the necessary aid they need to grow, he said.

Abiru also spoke on the recently launched SAIL Innovation Lab and its prospects on the future of youths across the District.

‘Most times you have to target the area of support you should appropriate to these young individuals which would, in turn, transform their mindsets to become productive to the community. Our focus is to get them involved in what we tagged as the fourth industrial revolution, which pertains to the world of technology and innovations’, he added.

Abiru noted that, 6,000 food packs containing food items Iike, noodles, spaghetti, semolina, vegetable oil and other food stuffs were being distributed simultaneously to indigents Lagos East constituents through his liaison offices scattered across the District.

Speaking earlier, Special Adviser to Senator Abiru on Constituency Matters, Dr Saheed Ibikunle noted that the food packs initiative was another testament to the commitment of Senator ABIRU to the overall well-being of his constituents.

He also used the opportunity to reel out some of the previous and on-going interventions of the federal legislator which includes COVID-19 Financial Support to the indigents which ran for about 2 years, in which over One Hundred Million Naira was disbursed. He also spoke about the SAIL Innovation Lab, Bursary for undergraduates among many interventions facilitated by the Senator, popularly called, ‘Doing Good’ Senator.

Party leaders and other stakeholders who witnessed the distribution exercise commended Senator Abiru for his magnanimity and genuine love for his constituents, as evident in many of his people-oriented projects and initiatives.
