It was a time of wild jubilation among residents and stakeholders at Solomade and Adekayaoja Street, Ikorodu today as the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina declared that his administration would be embarking on the rehabilitation of six more roads across the council area.
Adeshina made the disclosure in a chat with newsmen shortly after performing the ground breaking of the 2-in-1 216 meters Solomade and Adekayaoja Streets behind the Ayangburen Palace in Ikorodu.
Adeshina stated that, ‘Our administration has identified about six more roads that will be rehabilitated very soon.
‘For instance, we will soon move to Arowolo Street at Itunpate. We just completed Forcy Rabiu Street at Lowa. We have also identified a road in Eleshin and Agura community’, he stated.
The Council Chairman equally reiterated the commitment of his government to the establishment of the Ikorodu Central Motor Park which is meant to address the problem of indiscriminate parkings along Lagos Road and Ikorodu Roundabout.
Speaking of the significance of the two roads, Adeshina noted that, ‘This road is very significant because it is a link road that connects Solomade Street to Ayangburen and Suberu Ogunsanya Streets. It serves as a diversion for vehicles and road users whenever there is traffic on the major road. The road is also very important to us because it lies right behind the palace of our royal father, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi’.
Adeshina further assured that the roads are being built to last, citing the example of some roads built over six years old and are still in very good shape.
A representative of the Solomade and Adekayaoja residents, Mr Oshikoya in his brief remarks thanked Adeshina for fulfilling his promise to the community, while assuring him that the community would ensure proper maintenance of the road when completed.
The flag-off ceremony was graced by the Vice Chairman, Hon Wasiu Adeshina, Secretary to the Local Government, Hon Lateef Afinih and Leader of the Ikorodu Local Government Legislative House, Hon Adebola Adebowale Ajayi who led other Councillors to the event.
