POLICEMEN ALLEGEDLY ASSAULTED TELEVISION CONTINENTAL STAFF, AKIODE TEMITOPE IN IMOTA AREA OF IKORODU

The negative public perception of the Nigerian Police again came to light on Tuesday, 24th January, 2017, when a Journalist and staff of Television Continental Broadcasting Limited Services, in Lagos, Akiode Temitope  narrated an ugly encounter he had on his facebook page with a notorious Police officer named Akin in Imota area of Ikorodu.

In his account of the incident, Akiode narrated that he and colleagues who were on official assignment to Ijebu Ode were stopped and searched at Imota, and despite showing the alleged Police officer an up-to -date vehicle particulars and identification cards, he blatantly requested for bribe. The TVC staff added that he told the police officer they were journalists on official assignment, and that he has no reason to ask any motorist for bribe.

According to him, the police officer, and his boss, popularly called Oga Jude, detained and delayed them for hours, after he was seriously beaten for confronting them and injuring the driver, bragging that they have put many people behind bar in Imota for such confrontation.

He further added that residents who came around to the scene of the incident said the the Police officer involved and his boss have been perpetrating such injustice on motorists for sometime in the area. He however called on the Nigeria Police to flush out such officers who remain stains on the honourable image of the Force.
