LASIEC RAISES ALARM OVER ILLEGAL VOTERS’ REGISTRATION CENTRES IN IKORODU

As part of the build-up towards the June 2017 Local Government polls in Lagos State, Head of Publicity and Protocol, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in the state, Mr Femi Akinbiyi, has cautioned Ikorodu residents to be weary of illegal voters’ registration centres in the Division.

The INEC official said this in a statement on Wednesday, 8th of March, 2017, that the Commission has not started registration of voters in any part of the state, noting that it came to the knowledge of the body that some unscrupulous elements in the division have been engaging in illegal registration of voters at the Ikorodu Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Akinbiyi disclosed that law enforcment agencies have been infomed of the development with a view to apprehending the criminals behind the illegal act, adding that appropriate notice will be issued to the general public when the registration commences.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the incident is coming as the Lags State Independent Electoral  Commission, LASIEC is urging registered voters who are yet to collect their Permanent Voters Cards to do so, so that voters will be able to cast their votes in the forth-coming elections into the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.
