Residents and business owners across many Ikorodu Division communities have lamented hardships and pains they have been suffering for the past weeks as a result of epileptic power supply and perpetual darkness being experienced in the division, owing to lack of power supply by the power distribution company in the state; Ikeja Electric, leaving residents in very precarious situation.
Investigation by our correspondent shows that, most parts of Ikorodu Division were plunged into darkness for several weeks in February 2017, when the power distribution company; Ikeja Electric, announced an upgrade on some of its facilities in the area, thereby shutting down supply to some parts of Ikorodu Division community, namely: Ebute-Ipakodo, Ibeshe, Eyita, Benson area, Sabo and Agric has been without power for weeks. Over a month after, the power supply situation had taken a more terrible twist, with communities such as Odoguyan, Lagos Polytechnic area, Baiyeku and other communities continue to live in darkness, hence visiting untold hardships on residents and paralyzing business activities.
Most businesses in the areas affected have had to operate on generating sets to make ends meet, while those who could not afford to, have continued to wish for power while waiting in frustration. Traders who sell cold water and drinks, including cold room owners have been the most hit, when one of them who sells locally-produced cold drink told our correspondent that she had to augment her business with other items, saying people have refused to buy her drinks recently because of the epileptic power supply and had gone as far as she could to get ice block, only to meet same complaint about power everywhere.
