The honourable commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives in Lagos State, Barr Rotimi Ogunleye has called on the Ikorodu Chambers of Commerce and Industry to wake up to its responsibilities by opening Ikorodu Division up for the impending economic prosperity.

Barr Ogunleye made this call while delivering his keynote address at the 5th edition of Ikorodu Community Development Awards held at the Ikorodu Town Hall on Saturday 22nd April, 2017. The awards, otherwise known as ICDA is an annual community awards sponsored by Ikorodu Community Development Foundation (ICDAF), an arm of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Libery Centre, Ikorodu, to celebrate individuals and organizations contributing to the growth and development of the division.

Ogunleye’s call is coming, against the backdrop of the efforts of the Lagos state government at transforming Lagos state from a mega city to a smart city. He further challenged the Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce to emulate their counterparts from Badagry division of the state who have been organizing series of economic summits, trade fairs and other related events in order to position their division to benefit immensely from the attendant economic boom that will follow the numerous Lagos state development projects across the state.

Ogunleye also highlighted some of the major development projects to commence across Ikorodu division to include, a fashion hub at Gberigbe, Industrial Park at Imota and the upgrading of the state rice mill from 2,000 to about 18,000 metric tonnes daily capacity, making it the biggest in Nigeria.

Winners of this year’s award include, FTS Club, Community Service Category; Fanafillit Integrated Concepts, Most Outstanding Arts / Entertainment Contribution of the Year and Elepe Royal Estate CDA, Hon S.O.B Agunbiade Award for the Most Outstanding CDA. Others include, Lagos State Polytechnic, Sgt Mrs Abiodun Oguntade and Heroes of Lagos Road. Ikorodu  who also received special recognition awards among others.
