ISHAWO ATTACK: DEPLOY HELICOPTERS, GUNBOATS TO IKORODU, OTHER AREAS OF LAGOS, SENATE TELLS FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Against the backdrop of renewed militants and kidnapping attacks on Ishawo and Yewa Communities in Ikorodu, which led to the death of an army Captain, four Police officers and seven residents of the areas, the Nigerian Senate has called on the Federal Government to deploy sophisticated military unit to the Ikorodu and other areas in Lagos State terrorized by criminals.

The Senate made the demand based on a motion moved by Senator Gbenga Ashafa at the Plenary on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017. The Lawmakers then unanimously granted the prayers of the motion, which included the advise to the Federal Government to immediately instruct the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, to beef up the strength of the task force already on ground in order to effectively secure all the affected communities.

The Senate urged the Army, Navy, and other security agencies to assist the Nigeria Police in its quest to rid Lagos State, particularly the creeks in Lagos East Senatorial District which includes Kosofe, Epe, Ikorodu, Ibeju Lekki Local Government areas of the State off criminal syndicates who specialises in kidnapping and carrying out militant activities, which the upper chamber of the National Assembly described as one which has taken a totally new and disturbing dimensions.
