The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikorodu branch, will be hosting a lecture, titled ‘Combating Corruption in Recession: The Transformation Role of the Bar and Bench Today’. The NBA, Ikorodu Chapter, made this known at a press Conference, addressed by its Chairman, Mr Levi Adikwaone, in Lagos.
According to the Chairman, the Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University, LASU, Professor Olanrewaju Fagboun and the Executive Director of Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, Mr. Adetokun Mumini, are among personalities expected to speak at the annual lecture, named after Chief B.O Benson, SAN.
The lecture, which is expected to be chaired by a retired Justice of the Supreme Court, George Oguntade, is expected to take a critical look at the role of the bar and bench in tackling corruption in Nigeria.
According to Daily Trust Online, Adikwaone said another reason for the choice of the topic was the need to assess how effective lawyers and judges at all levels of the court have either encouraged or discouraged the fight against corruption.
He further added the topic was selected after much deliberations with the council of elders of the branch, noting that the branch has gathered very capable persons for the lectures who he said they believe would do justice to the topic.
