About one year to the forthcoming 2023 general elections, some APC leaders, party faithfuls and residents of Ikorodu federal constituency have endorsed Hon Babajimi Benson, the member representing the division at the House of Reps for a third term in office.
Benson got an unprecedented massive nod of his consituents to run for a third term in office, come 2023 yesterday at the commissioning of five link roads he facilitated at KAZ Avenue, Sabo area of Ikorodu.
The motion for the endorsement of the federal lawmaker was moved by a prominent Ikorodu APC leader, Governor Advisory Committee Member and a former Secretary to Lagos State Government, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun during the formal commissioning of five link roads facilitated by the lawmaker in Ikorodu.
Bashorun’s call for endorsement was received with an overwhelming applause and affirmation from party faithffuls and residents who attended the commissioning event.
‘Hon Jimi Benson is the member representing us in the House of Reps, at the House of Representatives. At today’s event, we have our House of Assembly members and leaders of all our council areas. We have LGA Chairmen, we have Youth Leaders and of course the host of the day’s event, Hon Babajimi Benson. There is nothing we can give to Hon Jimi Benson than to thank him’, he said.
‘On this note, I want to move a motion and I want those who are in support to signify and if anyone is against, let him say so. For this motion, I will also need a seconder’. The notion is for the endorsement of Hon Babajimi Benson for a third term in office as our representative at the House of Reps’, he added.
The call for endorsement was subsequently seconded by the Executive Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon Kunle Agoro. His motion was also greeted with massive show of hands and voice supports by the attendees.
He said, ‘I, Hon Kunle Agoro the Executive Chairman of Imota LCDA hereby seconds the motion for the endorsement of Hon Jimi Benson for a third term in office’.
The commissioning event was graced by the Speaker of the House of Reps, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila who performed the commemorative commissioning.
Speaking earlier before commissioning the link roads, Gbajabiamila was full of praises for Hon Jimi Benson. Gbajabiamila noted that Ikorodu was lucky to have a passionate and hard-working representative like Benson.
‘It is a 1.6km infrastructure that Jimi Benson has facilitated and we must thank him for what it is. It is not only that the road was tarred, but it was well tarred and also the street lights are functional. So, it is easy for people to move at night. It is a feeder road, for about five other roads. This is a great accomplishment in one swell swoop and I commend Jimi Benson for this.
He concluded by throwing his weight behind the endorsement of the federal lawmaker for a third term and urged Ikorodu federal constituents to continue to support Hon Benson.
Similarly, Lagos State APC Chairman, Hon Cornelius Ojelabi commended the legislator for being a good ambassador of the APC.
‘Hon Babajimi Benson has been used by God to deliver the dividends of our party the APC to the good people of Ikorodu. He’s been able to bring back the dividends of democracy with the right backing of our Speaker of the House of Representatives. We’re going to push our point for his endorsement through our votes. To ensure this we must revalidate our PVC and vote for Benson and other APC candidates in the 2023 general elections’, he stated.
The Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi in his address prayed for the Speaker and thanked him for being a pillar of support for Hon Jimi Benson.
Also, the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Ajibade Agoro expressed his joy with traditional songs in honour of Hon Benson. He further stressed that the legislator had his signature projects dotted across all communities under the Ikorodu federal constituency.
Making his remarks at the event, Hon Babajimi Benson traced the successes he recorded from his first term, second term and general two past general lections to the support and encouragement of the Speaker who he refered to as a great pillar of support.
He concluded by appreciating the Speaker for entrusting him with the Chairmanship of one of the first three most powerful committees in the House of Reps.
