Popularly branded with different names, ranging from James Bond, Julius Berger, Imole of Ikorodu among many other nomenclature, Member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Reps, Babajimi Benson has revealed the secrets behind his sterling performance in the last nine years.
The Chairman, House Committee on Defence made the revelation during an exclusive interview yesterday with the Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper and monitored by our correspondent.
Benson disclosed that a strong sense of responsibility and a commitment to serving his constituents and the desire to put smiles on the faces of his constituents by preferring solutions to the myraid of problems confronting them were his major driving force.
Benson further disclosed that, having gone round the entire Division canvassing for votes with promises to deliver on their expectations, he cannot afford to give them excuses.
He highlighted his greatest achievement as a lawmaker as having sponsored five bills which has been signed into law by the President, including the Defense Research and Development Bureau (DRDB), the Defense Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), and the Host Community Development Funds.
Benson also attributed his success to building relationships and networking, citing his connections with various stakeholders, including the President, House of Reps Speaker, Governors, and local government chairmen.
He emphasized the importance of fulfilling campaign promises and working tirelessly to deliver results.
He also spoke about the challenges faced by politicians in Nigeria, stating that it’s difficult to relent due to constant scrutiny from citizens. Benson praised his mentors, including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his late father, who instilled in him the fear of God and the capacity to become a generous giver.
Regarding local government autonomy, the erudite lawmaker advocated for decentralization of powers, giving more powers to local government chairmen to focus on grassroots development.
He expressed optimism about the potential benefits of local government autonomy, including improved infrastructure and job creation.
In conclusion, Rep. Benson commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed initiatives, such as autonomy, student loan initiatives, and infrastructure development, urging Governors to connect these projects to various states.
