In the spirit of the yuletide, characterized by love, sharing and giving, an Ikorodu based new generation Church, Builder and Maker Church has demonstrated the love of Christ to the less privileged members of the community, through the distribution of 5kg of rice to this group of people.
The Pastor of the church, Adebola MacPrince said the initiative was borne out of her experience and passion to help the poor. She also stated that the goal was to not only give but also to empower the poor with financial skills and empowerment in order to alleviate their poverty.
The bags of rice were distributed during the annual Christmas carol service of the Church on Sunday, 23rd December, 2018, where the church choir and drama units treated the congregation with melodious songs of Christmas and a beautiful drama presentation tilted “Unlimited God”.
In an exclusive interview with Ikorodu Oga Radio, Pastor (Mrs) Debola MacPrince said “Builder and Maker Church is a movement, we do what Jesus would do if He was on earth at this time. Our goal is to meet the financial needs of the people in the community by giving and empowering them with the knowledge to become employers of labour. And come 2023, we want to have taken 1000 children out of the streets to schools”.
One of the beneficiaries of the bags of rice, Elisabeth Adedogun said it was her second time of benefitting from the distribution and blessed the church for not forgetting the needy in this festive period.
Another beneficiary, Esther John could not withhold her joy as she danced with her bag of rice and thanked the church, revealing that the rice would serve as her family’s meal for Christmas.
Speaking on the distribution of the rice, Pastor Debola MacPrince noted that the outreach was in response to God’s instruction to her to always remember the poor and share with them from God’s blessings upon her life.
Speaking further, she noted that, ‘we are not giving because, we have so much but, we are giving as a way of demonstrating God’s love to the poor so that they too can extend God’s love to their neighbours, no matter how small. That is why I advised them to share at least, one ‘de rica’ cup from the 5kg we gave them with those in need around them’.
The event was spiced with beautiful carol song renditions and drama presentation by the Church drama group.
