The newly opened National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) Ikorodu Model Study Centre has started receiving acceptance and support from stakeholders across Ikorodu Division, few weeks after the federal government owned university opened its Ikorodu Model Study Centre.
The first major acceptance and support for the new federal university is coming from Hon Jimi Benson, member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.
To demonstrate his support and a acceptance for the new institution, Hon Benson announced that he will sponsor the construction of one of the three buildings being proposed for the institution’s permanent site located at Itamaga, along Ijede Road in Ikorodu.
Hon Benson made the announcement when responding to the remarks made by Prof Ajibola Saheed, the Director of the Ikorodu Model Study Centre when he paid him a courtesy visit at his Constituency Office in Ikorodu.
The Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Defence also pledged that he will float a scholarship drive for indigent residents of Ikorodu who are seeking admission into the Ikorodu Study Centre of the Open University.
Earlier in his brief remark, Prof Ajibola thanked Hon Benson for the warm reception shown to his team.
He explained that, unlike other NOUN Community Study Centres in some parts of Lagos, the federal government was magnanimous by approving a Model Study Centre for Ikorodu.
He also disclosed that the University management has purchased a landed property for the building of the NOUN permanent site along Ijede Road in Ikorodu.
Prof Ajibola also solicited for the support of Hon Benson and other well-meaning individuals across Ikorodu Division to support the success of the Ikorodu Study Centre through scholarship endowment, donation of buildings, computers and educational facilities to the institution.
Hon Benson was joined by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon Sulaiman Kazeem Olanrewaju, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba (Barr) Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali and the Publisher of Oriwu Sun Newspaper, Alhaji Monzor Olowosago.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the Director-General of the I-Care Foundation, Mayor Deen Sanwoola.
Founder and CEO of Ikorodu Oga Radio, Omo’ba ‘Peju Akinyemi who facilitated the visit also moderated the proceeding.
