WORKING VISIT: IKORODU COUNCIL CHAIRMEN RATE GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU HIGH, SHOWCASES COUNCIL ACHIEVEMENTS

The six Executive Chairmen of Ikorodu local government and local council development areas have rates Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu high on his performance across council areas in Ikorodu Division.

The council bosses made this disclosure at a reception ceremony held in honour of the governor yesterday at the Ikorodu Town Hall when he paid a working visit to the local government.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Hon Wasiu Adeshina, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu local government was full of praises to the Governor for his numerous past and on-going state projects scattered around the area.

‘I am delighted and privilege to formally welcome our hardworking and performing Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to Ikorodu Division. On behalf of the six Council Chairmen in Ikorodu Division and the amiable people of Ikorodu, I welcome you specially sir, as you pay a working visit to arguably the fastest growing division in Lagos State’, he said.

Speaking further, he said, ‘I am very confident to say before you here today that the people of Ikorodu Division are happy with you and your transformational agenda for the division. We are aware of your numerous giant strides and huge commitment to the development of Ikorodu, in terms of road construction, both completed and on-going. The Oba Sekumade road is indeed a sight to behold as your administraion is permanently solving the challenge we are facing on the road with concrete pavement and I must say the contractor is doing a good job. Ishawo road, Igbe-Ginti road in Igbogbo, Igbogbo-Baiyeku road, Ikorodu roundabout among others are all on-going massive projects, all for your love for the people of Ikorodu’, he added.

The chairman also saluted the courage of the Governor in transmuting the Lagos State Polythecnic, Ikorodu into a University of Science and Technology.

Hon Adeshina also used the opportunity to reel out some of the achievements of the six (6) council areas, in complimenting the State government efforts towards fastracking infrastructural development.

‘Your Excellencies, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, it is also important to state some laudable achievements of our Council Chairmen, despite the fact that we are faced with paucity of funds in Ikorodu Division. Our Council Chairmen have been able to compliment your efforts by constructing a number of roads within our capacity, built befitting police posts,built beautiful Council Secretariats that would boost productivity and morale of staff members, purchased mini-buses as empowerment for the good people of Ikorodu Division, built culverts as well as resurfacing and reconstruction of roads. It is equally very important to mention that we are blessed with the best representatives at the federal and State levels. Our Legislators are all worthy of emulation and shining examples to others’.

Concluding, Adeshina echoed the voices of the millions of residents of the Division through a passionate appeal to the Governor for his intervention toon some dilapidated roads in the Division.

‘Your Excellency Sir, like Oliver Twist, we want to make some passionate appeal on some areas that needs state attention. We want to appeal to the state government to assist in the construction of the second phase Agura-Gberigbe, Ijede road Pahse 2 roads, construction of Oreta-Offin road in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA as assured by you during your visit to commission Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA Secretariat, dualisation of Ojogbe-Ireshe road in Ikorodu. Upgrading of the Industrial Estate in Odongunyan and more importantly, upgrading of our royal palaces in Ikorodu Division, such as Imota, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Isiwu, Ijede, Ipakodo and Ibeshe’, he submitted.

Responding, Governor Sanwo-Olu announced the immediate commencement of work on the Ijede-Gberigbe road noting that Letter of Award had just been issues to Arab Contractors to start work on the road immediately.

He also reiterated his commitment to his earlier promised on the reconstruction of the Igbogbo-Baiyeku road in due course.

He further expressed the commitment of his administration to the development of Ikorodu Division through infrastructural projects.

A major highlight of the event was the presentation of compensation cheques to those whose houses and properties were demolished to make way for the rehabilitation of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way in Igbogbo.

He later proceeded to commission the Ikorodu Youth and Digital Centre, Ita-Elewa, facilitated by Hon Babajimi Benson, member representing Ikorodu federal Constituency at the House of Reps.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was welcomed to Ikorodu amidst local songs and excitements among attendees.
