WOMEN AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT: IKORODU DIVISION FOREMOST FEMALE CLUB, WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE DONATES SEWING MACHINES TO VOCATIONAL CENTRE

The efforts of Lagos State Government towards women and youth empowerment gained a major boost today, with the donation of sewing machines to the Lagos State Vocational Training Centre at Etunrenren, Ikorodu.

The items were donated by a foremost Ikorodu Division female social club, Ikorodu Division Women of Substance.

The club, led by its President, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola made the donation to the centre today, Monday in company of other members or the club and representatives of the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education (Adult and Non-Formal).

Speaking on the presentation, Akinsola, a former Commissioner for Housing in Lagos State noted that the donation was in fulfillment of one of the club’s cardinal objectives of women and youth empowerment across Ikorodu Division.

‘One of our cardinal programmes is to support the empowerment of young people women and the vulnerable among us and the less privileged across Ikorodu Division in whatever way possible, within our means and power. We have come to realize that vocational education is very important all over the world. It is the beginning of entrepreneurship for young people. Therefore, we believe that it is a worthy cause for us to support the State Government’.

She added that, ‘The State Government has provided an enabling environment, facilities and they pay the teachers. This is just our own little way to partner with the state government and supporting the students’.

Commending the donors, Director, Lagos State Agency for Mass Education, Mrs Oluwakemi Kalesanwo called on more well–meaning Nigerians to partner with the agency in empowering Lagosians with economically relevant skills considering that the world has now gone entrepreneurial.

Similarly, the Centre Coordinator, Mrs Taofikat Olaide Oladunjoye assured the donors that the machines would be put to effective and optimal use.

‘These machines are going to be effectively utilized and it will be well maintained so that many generations of trainees can benefit from its usage’.

She added that the centre is not limited to only Tailoring and Fashion Designing as there are other programmes like Phone and Computer Repairs among others available for members of the general public to benefit from.

Other Members of the Women of Substance in attendance at the presentation were, Comrade.Kehinde Okeowo, Mrs Toyin Aroyewun and Evang Mrs Omobola Ilubanwo.
