It is with profound sense of sympathy that I join President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, Minister of Defence and indeed the Armed Forces of Nigeria to express my deep sorrow over the untimely demise of 16 courageous Officers and men during a peace enforcement mission in Okuama Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The murder of these gallant soldiers in the line of duty is not only reprehensible but also a heinous act, whose perpetrators must be brought to justice.

It is another ultimate sacrifice by the brave men and women of our Armed Forces to preserve the peace, unity, and progress of the nation.

The House of Representatives Committee on Defence stands in solidarity with the colleagues, friends, and families of the fallen heroes in this challenging time.

Rest assured that the committee will continue to exercise its legislative powers in collaboration with relevant authorities to advocate for enhanced welfare packages, life insurance, and other benefits for members of our Armed Forces.

May their souls rest in peace.

Rep. Babajimi Benson, MHR
Chairman, Committee on Defence, House of Representatives
