Not less than 23 Primary Schools spread across Ikorodu Federal Constituency today benefitted from the educational intervention facilitated by Rep Babajimi Benson, Chairman House Committee on Defense and Member, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency at the House Reps.
The federal lawmaker, through his I-Care Foundation Team, led by Mayor Deen Sanwoola conducted the distribution exercise which was done simultaneously on his behalf in all the six council areas in Ikorodu Division and was witnessed by our correspondent.
Explaining the rationale behind the educational support, Sanwoola explained that, Benson was aware of the harsh economic situation in the country and have decided to help cushion the effects on parents of public school pupils within his constituency.
He added that the exercise was also meant to inspire the school children to dream big and pursue their dreams and become great in life, just like Rep Babajimi Benson who was just like any of them some decades back.
Representative of the Local Education Authority, Ikorodu Local Government, Mrs T.K Smith commended Hon Benson for facilitating the educational intervention. She noted that the notebooks would meet the immediate needs of the pupil, many of who do not have writing materials.
‘Infact, these pupils are very lucky. I’ve gone round this morning, and I have discovered that many of them do not have notebooks or writing materials. It will surely make them happy and I know that these children will not forget it for a long time’, she said.
‘This gesture will also assist their teachers in discharging their duties. You know when you are teaching and children are not writing, it can be very frustrating. With these notebooks, teaching will now become more interesting for the teachers’, she added.
She concluded by charging the pupils to make good use of the notebooks and ensure they are committed to their academics as it is the best legacy they can get from their parents.
Head Master of the CPS Primary School, Itowolo, Mr Adebisi Musibau noted that Rep Benson’s support to his school was a great show of compassion to his pupils. He lamented the neglect of the school by the State and Local governments, despite its strategic positioning at the entrance of Ikorodu Division.
Similarly, Mrs Adeola Oladunni, Head Mistress of Majidun Primary School expressed appreciations to Benson and his team for considering her pupils among those who will benefit from the support.
Our correspondent reports that many of the pupils who received the notebook support were full of excitements as they prayed and sang for Rep Benson, to show their appreciation.
