ORIWU COLLEGE, AGA PRIMARY SCHOOL, OTHERS SHINE AT IKORODU LG SPELLING BEE COMPETITION

Abdul Azeez Abdul-Rahman of Oriwu Model College and Busayo Aiyekomilogbon from Methodist primary schools Ikorodu have emerged winners of the 2021 Spelling Bee competition held at the council Secretariat in Ikorodu local government.

The two schools slugged it out with 23 other public primary and secondary schools in Ikorodu to emerge winners of the local government level of the State sponsored competition.

Similarly, Tobias Juliet from Temidire Primary School and Paul Precious from Yewa Senior Grammar School emerged first runners up respectively.

Meanwhile, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel from Gberigbe Community Senior Grammar School and Paul Benita from Aga primary school came third in the keenly contested competition.

The intensely contested competition was witnessed by the Chairman of Ikorodu local government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina, his wife, Mrs Bolanle Adeshina and a host of other Ikorodu leaders and APC chieftains.

The Baale of Ojogbe, Chief Olomo represented the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and the traditional institutions at the well attended event.

In his remarks at the event, Hon Adeshina noted that that the annual Spelling Bee competition has become a rallying point for schools in Lagos State.

‘As we witness yet another annual Spelling-Bee Competition, this educational event has continued to gain wide recognition and is contested among pupils and students in our public primary and secondary schools’

He added that, ‘the competition has greatly helped in increasing the knowledge and ability of our pupils and students in English Language and vocabulary. lt is very necessary at this point, to commend the great efforts of our mother, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is the founder of the New Era Foundation and the annual Spelling Bee Competition’.

Hon Adeshina commended the moderator, Mr John Wesley and the time keeper, Mrs Adenike for doing a very good job. He equally announced that the local government will sponsor the grooming of the six winners and sponsor them to the next stage, which is the State level of the competition.

He expressed hope that, with adequate grooming, the winners of of the Ikorodu local government competition can emerge winners at the State level.

Mrs Bolanle Adeshina also congratulated all the participants and winners for giving a good account of themselves.

Mr Akodu Rhaman, Director Special Education and Intervention Program spoke on behalf of the PS/TG PS and reiterated the importance of the spelling bee program and the special place it occupies in Lagos State.

He revealed that winners of the competition at the State level will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to Finland, among many other prizes and gifts

Reps of the Executive Secretary of Ikorodu Local Education District in her remarks thanked the officers and participants for making the event a success.

Hon Adeshina and his wife, with the support of other guests in attendance later presented gifts to the outstanding students, while all the participants were presented with one school bag each.
