NAPPS LAGOS SCHOOL RADIO WILL SIMPLIFY EDUCATION, ENHANCE LEARNING, LAGOS STATE COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, MRS FOLASHADE ADEFISAYO

The Honourable Commissioner for Education in Lagos State, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo has commended the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Lagos State Chapter for launching the NAPPS Lagos School Radio.

She further stated that, the online radio will simplify education and enhance learning among school-age children in the State.

‘This online school radio station will further simplify education in Lagos state, giving students more cravings to enhance their learning capacity’, she said.

‘Just having a mobile phone connects an individual to the rest of the world, it is only paramount for education to capitalise on these technological advancements to enhance teachings, news and information beyond the classroom’, she added.

The Commissioner who was represented at the formal presentation of the school radio by Mrs Abiola Johnson, a director in the Lagos State Ministry of Education, noted that the launch of the online school radio was a great accomplishment, while promising to partner and collaborate with the NAPPS radio in variety of ways to help Lagos State pupils and students.


Speaking earlier, the President of NAPPS Lagos State, Mr Amusa Olawale noted that, the radio was a child of necessity inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic which disrupted academic activities in 2020.

‘The pandemic came suddenly and changed the way things were normally done. Norms became abnormal and we were all confronted by a ‘misnomer called The New Normal’.

Speaking further, he said ‘the educational sector was the worst hit. We could no more gather nor assemble children in the school or classrooms. We were left with the option of relying on technology as the alternative means of imparting knowledge to millions of our learners’.

‘Like the popular saying- once bitten, twice shy; the State executives of NAPPS Lagos State has vowed not to be caught panting in the face of this new normal, in our quest to provide qualitative education to students of private schools in the State’, he added.

Our search for an effective, veritable and easily accessible but complimentary teaching platform is what has given birth to the NAPPS Lagos School Radio’, he submitted.

Explaining the uniqueness of the new radio station, Director of the media house, Omoba ‘Peju Akinyemi said, ‘it is aimed at promoting education and learning, outside the school and beyond the four walls of the classroom. The radio is also poised to become Nigeria’s one-stop shop for the provision of learning and academic resources for school-age children, irrespective of age, class and social status’.

‘To promote quality education, academic impartation and technology-based learning through the adoption of 21 century radio technology for learning and scheduled subject teachings to all grades of learners.

Omoba Akinyemi further expressed the readiness of the station for mutually beneficial collaborations and partnerships that would enhance the delivery of quality educational contents to it’s target audience.

In his brief remarks at the event, General Secretary, NAPPS Lagos State Chapter, Yusuf Lukman expressed his joy at the launch of the school radio.

‘We have made a giant stride with the launch of the NAPPS School Radio. We will be leveraging every platforms provided by NAPPS for parents, students and teachers in private schools. Most parents think that private schools are set up to collect money, but looking at our various approaches post covid-19 which include this first online educational radio station, there is no limit to what we can do for the children’, he noted.
