Following the recently concluded celebration of Lagos State Polytechnic’s 40th anniversary, the rector Mr Sogunro Samuel revealed on Thursday that the management of the institutions was working towards upgrading the Polytechnic into a Polytechnic-University, to enable it to start running BSC and post-graduate degree programmes.
Sogunro stated that the introduction of the Degree Program would not put an end to the Polytechnic’s Ordinary National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). He said the OND, HND, as they will continue to run simultaneously alongside with the degree programmes.
The rector was speaking at the ‘Ankara Day’ and presentation of Long Service Awards which took place on the grand-finale of the polytechnic’s week-long 40th anniversary celebration on Tuesday, 22nd November 2018 at the convocation ground of the Polytechnic at Ikorodu campus.
He added that LASPOTECH had produced notable graduates and is a Polytechnic to reckon with, hence the managements persuasion to the government to key into their dream of a bigger and better LASPOTECH, hence the name a ‘Polytechnic University.
Chairman of LASPOTECH Governing Council, Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi in an interview with Ikorodu Oga Radio noted that “our celebration of the institution is in three phases, the first is for the solid foundation the early years founders have laid, secondly the notable alumni the school has produced in thousands and lastly, we are celebrating ourselves, the very hard working lecturers with integrity. Now we are large and robust”
The climax of the celebration was the presentation of long-term service awards to staff and lecturers of the Polytechnic who had served between fifteen (15) to thirty-five (35) years. The award recipients were presented with Certificates of Stewardship and gifts to remind them that their services to the institution were not unnoticed.
Some of the awardees include; the rector of LASPOTECH, Sogunro Samuel and some of his predecessors, Engr Olawyunmi Gasper, Mr Ayodeji Iginla…
Others were, Olusoji Adeyemi Banjo, Joseph Olugbemiga Ibioye, Dr. Funsho Joshua, Jenet Oluremi Folorunsho, Olasunkanmi Olayinka Longe, Olufolabi Olubanjo, Kamarudeen Babatunde Ibrahim, Isaac Bolagade, Mr Shakurdeen Adetuna, Elizabeth Abiola, Mrs Adeola Banjo, Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi and many others.
The visibly elated awardees were full of excitements as they were celebrated by colleagues, family and friends who came to share in their joy. One of the award recipients, Pst. (Mrs) Adeola Banjo, a chief lecturer, Insurance Department and Director of the School of Part Time Studies Evening (SPTSE) said she was grateful to God for the expansion in LASPOTECH compared to when she just joined the Polytechnic thirty (30) years ago and hopes for a brighter future for the institution.
The historic event was graced by Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi the Ayangburen of Ikorodu and Oba Akeem Oyebo, the Obateru of Egbin kingdom and their chiefs.
Other guests include some past rectors and principal officers like Engr Olawunmi Gasper, Mr Ayodeji Iginla among other distinguished guests.
