LASPOTECH 27TH COMBINED CONVOCATION CEREMONY: AARE AFE BABALOLA, ALH ROTINWA TO RECEIVE LASPOTECH FELLOWSHIP AWARDS

A renowned legal luminary, senior advocate of Nigeria and Chancellor of Afe Babalola University,  Aare Afe Babalola, SAN and a former Lagos State Head of Service and current Chairman, Lagos State Local Government Commission,  Alh Babatunde Rotinwa has be confirmed as two notable Nigerians that will be honoured with the Lagos State Polytechnic Fellowship Award at this year’s 27th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the Institution, slated for Thursday 6th March, 2020.

This revelation was made by LASPOTECH Rector,  Mr Samuel Sogunro, while addressing press men at the press conference to flag off activities for the 27th combined convocation of the Polytechnic, held at the Ikorodu campus of the institution’s Board room.

‘It is my pleasure to inform you that, on Thursday,  12th March, 2020, the Polytechnic will confer Honourary Fellowship awards on two eminent personalities, namely; Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) and Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa, former Lagos State Head of Service and the present Chairman,  Lagos State Local Government Service Commission.’

Sogunro noted that, these two personalities have distingushed themselves in their respective fields and are deserving of the LASPOTECH Fellowship Awards to be confered on them.

‘It is my pleasure to inform you that, on Thursday,  12th March, 2020, the Polytechnic will confer honorary fellowship award s on two (2Nos.) eminent Aare Afe Babalola, (SAN), CON OFR Founder , Afe Babalola University and Alhaji Babatunde Rotinwa, former Lagos state Head of service and Present Chairman, Lagos state Local Government Service Commission’, he said.

Expressing satisfaction at the quality of the graduating set, Sogunro stated that, ‘the polytechnic of excellence will present a total number of 16, 315 well-groomed, adequately-trained and highly-enterprising graduands who have completed their National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes in various disciplines needed for the Nation’s socio-economic development, have acquired at least a vocational skill each at the centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition (CESA)’.

‘Out of the total number of graduands 598 have distinctions, 5, 332 Upper credit, 8, 268 Lower Credit and 2, 117 Pass Classifications.

Concluding his remarks, the Rector  ‘acknowledge the immense support of Mr. Governor, most especially in bringing to an end, the six-month- long industrial crisis which engulfed the Polytechnic in 2019. I also acknowledge the support of the Deputy Governor , the speaker and Honourable members of the Lagos State House Of Assembly, the special Adviser to the Governor on Education, the Head of Service, body of Permanent secretaries and MDAs , most especially the office of the Special Adviser on Education (OSAE) family, who are always there for us’.

‘Appreciation also goes to members of the immediate past Governing Council, Management, Academic Board, Staff and students of the Polytechnic for their cooperation and support in the last fifty-seven (57) months’, he stated.

Other events of the 27th combined convocation include:

  1.    An inter-denominational Thanksgiving Service Thursday, 5th March, 2020 by 1:00pm at the school of Agriculture 500-seater Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus.
  2.  Convocation Jumat Service scheduled to hold on Friday, 6th March, 2020 at Ikorodu Campus Mosque by 1:00pm.

iii.  The 27th convocation Dinner/Variety Show on Saturday, 7th March , 2020 at the Airport Hotel Ikeja by 5:30pm

  1.  There will be a Football Match at the Ikorodu Campus Football Field, by 10:00am prompt on Monday 9th March, 2020.
  2. Monday 9th March, 2020 has been scheduled for Student’s Programme, as a Convocation Drama will be taking place at the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition(CESA), Ikorodu, Campus by 1:00pm.
  3. An Exhibition has been scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 10th March 2020 at the School of Agriculture Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus by 10:00am

vii. The 27th Combined Convocation Lecture will hold same day (10th March) at the School of Agriculture Auditorium, Ikorodu Campus by 12:00 noon. The topic of the lecture is ‘Infrastructural Deficit and Technological Development in Nigeria:The role of Technical Education’ to be delivered by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the Honourable Minister of interior, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
