LAKE RICE HAS COME TO STAY, SAYS LAGOS COMM FOR COMMERCE, BARR ROTIMI OGUNLEYE

The Honourable Commissioner for Commissioner, Industry and Cooperatives in Lagos State, Barr Rotimi Ogunleye has disclosed that the locally produced Lagos state gobrnment rice production initiative between Kebbi and Lagos State Government, known as ‘Lake Rice’ is an ‘enduring’ project and not just a palliative measure by the Lagos State Government to cushion the effect of inflation on the yuletide season on Lagosians.

The Commissioner, who disclosed this to Ikorodu Oga Radio, said the rice mill in the state, which is located at Imota, has not been operating at optimum capacity, adding that the administration of the State Governor, Mr Akinwumi Ambode designed a roadmap through which the mill can produce at maximum capacity by expanding its operations, which he revealed was achieved through a foreign investment.

He however further revealed other plans put in place to sustain the lake rice initiative and partnership with Kebbi State.

Addressing some lapses in the distribution of the rice to Lagosians towards the Christmas celebration, Ogunleye assured that government is committed to address the shortcomings with a view to avoid a re-occurence.
