The Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Justice Kazeem Alogba has sworn in 92 new Notaries Public at the High Court complex, Ikeja, Lagos.
Alogba administered the Oath of Office to the newly sworn-in Notaries Public as each lawyer made a solemn declaration before the Chief Judge and the body of benchers, committing to uphold the integrity and responsibilities of their new role.
In his address, Alogba emphasised the importance of the Notary Public to the judiciary and the legal system. He urged the newly confirmed Notaries Public to maintain the highest standard of authenticity and integrity in their work. “Your signatures on documents hold significant weight”, he stated.
The Hon. Chief Judge also stated that they must ensure that every document notarised is legal and genuine, adding that the authenticity and accuracy of the documents they handle are of utmost importance, as these documents often have both national and international implications.
He stressed the importance of the office of the notary public, which is to aid the speedy administration of Justice, while cautioning them that their stamp of office must not be used by anybody else, as it is against the rule of law. He also advised them to be focused and shunned forms of illegality in their new responsibilities.
The representative of the newly sworn-in Notaries Public, Mr. Oluwaseun Isaac Aderibigbe Esq, on behalf of others, promised not to fail in discharging their duties and equally not to involve themselves in anything that will embarrass the Judiciary.
