LAGOS @ 50 ANNIVERSARY: CELEBRATION TRAIN MOVES TO THE COMMUNITIES

The party train of the Lagos @ 50 anniversary celebration will soon move to the various communities across Lagos state as hosts of Community Day event, as part of the on-going Lagos @ 50 anniversary celebration. The community day, according to Mr Kehinde Bamigbetan, Special Adviser, Communities and Communication is meant to give the communities a sense of belonging in the golden jubilee anniversary celebration.

He also stressed that the community day event is meant to avail Lagos communities the opportunity to celebrate the Lagos @ 50 event, in their own unique and colourful way. The event is to hold simultaneously at the headquarters of all the 20 local government areas on Saturday,  13th May, 2017.

Addressing a gathering of the Association of Community Media Practitioners at Alausa, Ikeja, Chairman of the community day celebration sub-committee, Chief Michael Olawale Cole reiterated the importance of the May 13th event, stressing that, it is one significant event that will make Lagosians at the grassroots feel the essence of the Lagos @ 50 celebrations.

He further hinted that, the event which will be holding at the 20 Local government secretariats across the state will also involve the local council development areas within their jurisdiction. This, according to Chief Olawale-Cole was to make the event an all-inclusive celebration, by bringing the Lagos @ 50 anniversary celebration close to those in the remote parts of Lagos state communities.

He said ‘among other line up of events, the community day event is very close to the heart of the governor. He believes that, it is Lagos state that is 50 and not just Lagos, hence the hosting of the community day event, to give our people at the grassroot opportunity to participate in the anniversary celebration.

Corroborating the chairman of the community day sub-committee, Hon Dayo Oshinjo, chairman, Conference 57 and sole administrator of Bariga Local government promised that the sole administrators will collaborate with the community day sub-committee Lagos @ 50 celebration to make the event a success.

Reeling out some of the activities and side attractions lined up for the community day event, Princess Abiodun Elegunshi, Secretary-General, Conference 57 and Sole administrator, Eti Osa local government said that there would be movie screening and children corner for children to have fun on the day. CDC Chairmen of each local government will deliver keynote address at the occasion.

The community day sub-committee of the Lagos @ 50 celebration event is chaired by Chief Michael Olawale-Cole, with the commissioner for local government and SA, Communities and Communications among others, as members.
