INSECURITY: IKORODU LG PARLEYS STAKEHOLDERS ON JOINT TASK FORCE BYE-LAW, SEEKS SUPPORT

The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has appealed to residents of the council area to support his administration’s efforts in maintaining peace and security in the area, through the proposed Ikorodu Local Government-Joint Task Force.

Adeshina made the appeal today, while addressing stakeholders at the Joint Task Force Stakeholders Meeting held at the Council Secretariat.

Adeshina noted that the move to enact the bye-law was a demonstration of his administration’s determination to curb insecurity and compliment the efforts of the security agencies in ensuring peace and security across the LGA.

‘In the last few months, we have established the Local Joint Task Force, to provide efficient security system, in collaboration with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies in Ikorodu Local Government. We did not just create the Task Force but, provided the personnel with vehicles and equipment, to ensure easier and better service delivery’, he stated.

He added that, ‘today’s meeting will seve as an avenue for the local government to recognize and regulate the mode of operations of the Joint Task Force and also to make efforts at improving the funding of the security architecture of Ikorodu Local Government’.

Adeshina also used the opportunity to appeal for funding support from Community Development Associations, Corporate bodies and other well-meaning individuals for the sustenance of the initiative, stressing that security was a capital-intensive venture.

In his remarks at the meeting, Leader of the Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Chamber, Hon Adebowale Adebola Ajayi disclosed that the JTF would be of immense benefits to the good people of the area.

‘The Joint Task Force is going to be of immense benefits to our Council area. The JTF personnel are conversant with the nooks and crannies of our community. Though, the Nigerian Police and other security agencies are doing their best but, they still need the assistance of the JTF personnel because we know ourselves’,

Similarly, the CDC Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government, Alh Lukman Shonibare commended the Executive and Legislative arms of Ikorodu Local Government for hosting the stakeholders meeting, noting that it would afford the government and residents the opportunity to rub minds on the proposed bye-law.

He equally charged the local government to ensure that the bill captures realistic sources of funding the JTF, noting that funding was key to the success of the task force.

Senior Police, Army, Civil Defence, NDLEA and LNSC who also participates in the meeting commended the leadership of Ikorodu LGA for establishing the JTF, while pledging to work with them in making Ikorodu Local Government a crime -free zone.

Other stakeholders at the meeting lauded the leadership of Ikorodu Local Government for embarking on the proposed bye-law.

The meeting was graced by a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Ikorodu Division Apex APC Leader, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, a former Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Alh Waheed Owokorodu among other APC Chieftains.

Top local government officials, led by the Ikorodu Local Government Council Manager, Engr Martins Odupitan witnessed the historic event.
