While many residents of Igbogbo are still counting their losses due to the demolition of their homes and properties to give way for the on-going construction of Igbogbo-Bola Tinubu-Igbe Road, with many hoping and praying that they will be remembered for compensation by the government, there is however a ray of hope on the potential economic prosperity the road will bring to the community.
Making the assurance was Hon Babajimi Benson, federal lawmaker, representing Ikorodu at the house of representatives when Ikorodu Oga radio sought his opinion on the plight of the affected residents of Igbogbo community.
Hon Benson said, ‘My philosophy in life is that, it is infrastructure that makes the state, institution and the people rich. Once that infrastructural development is in place, there would be a catalytic effect on the lives and GDP of that area and Lagos state as a whole’.
Earlier, Hon Benson assured affected property owners of prompt and adequate compensation. ‘Efforts are being made to compensate them. They have done the enumeration, the Ministry of Lands; the body charged with paying compensation has engaged them. They are trying to put value to the properties. Everybody will go home happy on the long run’ he said.
‘We are also turning the government that, compensation should not just be adequate, it should be appropriate’ he submitted.
