IDPIL, NDLEA TAKE “SAY NO TO DRUGS” CAMPAIGN ACROSS IKORODU DIVISION COMMUNITIES, BLACK SPOTS

The Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL) in its bid to ensure peace and security of the entire Division has taken its campaign against drug abuse and addiction to major parts of Ikorodu Division.

The group, led by its Chairman, War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Campaign, and a former two-term Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ikorodu Constituency 2 and one-time Acting Commissioner for Housing, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola was joined by men of the Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and operatives of the IDPIL-LJTF flagged off the 2-day road show yesterday, 13th February, 2024.

The team was also joined by representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), led by its Ikorodu Central Chairman, Com Idris Adeshina.

The convoy’s first point of call was the palace of the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi who expressed delight about the campaign and charged men of the NDLEA to ensure they compliment the IDPIL efforts by combing the drug spots across the Division with a view to frustrating the menace out of the Division.

The procession later moved from the Ayangburen Palace to Ipakodo, Ibeshe and Igbogbo, where they were received by the Odofin of Igbogbo, High Chief Tajudeen Onasanya who stood in for the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali.

In continuation of the 2-day campaign, the team took their campaign against drug addiction across major drug abuse black spots namely, Ita Elewa, Obun Ale, Ita Aro and Ota-Ona bus stop on Wednesday, 14th February.

The team also had brief stops at major areas like Itunmaja, Ladega, Ikorodu Garage Roundabout, Ogolonto and other notable spots where residents and passers by were sensitized. “Say No to Drugs” handbill were also distributed to passers by before terminating at the IDPIL office at Owolowo.

Addressing the procession, the Outgoing Area Commander, NDLEA Ikorodu Area Command, Mr. Stephen Ogunsuwa stated that his team would not relent in its bid to rid Ikorodu Division of drug abuse and addiction.

He stressed that the menace has negative effects on the lives of youths in particular, thus charging parents and all stakeholders to join the “Say No to Drugs Campaign”.

A notable Nollywood actor and comedian, Mr Adewale Elesho also joined the 2-day campaign to further drive home the campaign.

He noted that as a father, he could relate with the negative implications of drug abuse and addiction on the lives of youths hence his support for the campaign.

IDPIL Director of Administration, Mr Taiwo Salami Awolaru, IDPIL-LJTF Commandant, Akogun Lanre Labinjo, some Baales also joined the 2-day procession.
