HON AGUNBIADE DONATES 10 BEDS TO IKORODU GENERAL HOSPITAL, COMMENDS MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR IMPROVING IKORODU’S HEALTH SECTOR

The bed space available at the Ikorodu General Hospital has increased by ten, courtesy of the Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon SOB Agunbiade who donated 10 new beds to the medical facility yesterday.

Presenting the items to the Medical Director and CEO, Dr Taiwo Hassan, Hon Agunbiade stated that the donation which was coming as an instalment was made in appreciation of the dynamic leadership and massive developments taking place at the hospital under the current administration.

He therefore stated that, saying ‘Thank You’ alone was not enough, hence the donation.

He stressed that, there was the need to show the whole world that the community appreciates what Dr Hassan is doing by transforming the health sector in Ikorodu and he must be given all the necessary encouragement and support.

‘So, Doctor Hassan we cannot continue to say you are doing well behind you without coming to tell you you are doing well, so that your head can swell and when it swells you put more efforts’, he said.

‘I have said it is not good to just say well done and have handshake with Doctor Hassan. So, I decided that, If I must come to say Doctor Hassan, we appreciate you, I must not come empty handed, I must say thank you and while leaving I must leave something behind to show the gesture that we highly appreciate you. That is why I will be appealing to other well-meaning people in ikorodu to pay visit to the hospital, see the challenges of the hospital and give their own little support to make this place better’, he counseled.

‘Today’s donation is a product of one of my conversations with you in a social gathering. I asked you that what were your challenges in this hospital and you said you need beds in the hospital and immediately I remember that sometimes they will bring someone on emergency and when they get here there is no bed space and such patients would have to be treated either in the car or on the bench. So, today I have decided to donate to the hospital ten beds with the caveat that those ten beds are coming in as an installment. By the grace of God, when I am done with all the expenses surrounding me now, I will see how to repeat what I am doing today either the same number or more’, he concluded.

Responding on behalf of the hospital management, Dr Taiwo Hassan thanked the Majority Leader for the kind gesture, describing his coming as timely.

‘I’ve been here for a year and seven months, since I was redeployed to Ikorodu General Hospital, and as a team we have been able to do some good things because I have one of the greatest, very supportive hospital management committee. They have been very wonderful and I couldn’t have done it alone without their support.

He also used the opportunity to reel out some of the landmark achievements of the hospital under his leadership.

‘And in General Hospital, Ikorodu, in terms of seeing patient we are the largest in Lagos state aside from LASUTH. We happen to be among the category A hospitals and among the category A hospitals, we are Number 1’, he boasted.

‘I won the Best Out Service Delivery for the years 2014, 2015, 2016,
2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. And this General Hospital, Ikorodu is the best in terms of Most Improved General Hospitals in Lagos state. We won the Most Improved General Hospital in Lagos state last year. I want to say thank you to the staffs, the hospital management committee, they have all been very supportive.

And, like Oliver Twist he solicited for more support from the Majority Leader.

‘So if Majority Leader can help, we need Dialysis Centre in General Hospital Ikorodu. We also need a Trauma Centre. General Hospital, Ikorodu is the major referral centre in Lagos state. It will be very good, if we can have five Trauma Centres in the five IBILE Divisions of the State.

He concluded by thanking the Majority Leader and his Onward Team members for finding time, money, to come and donate. He noted that the ten beds and the ten foams will really go a long way.

Dr Hassan submitted that, General Hospital Ikorodu is a 286 bed hospital and of course we cannot serve this community enough so we still need more expansion and my dream is that this hospital becomes a reference hospital and a Specialist Hospital’.
