HISTORY AS REP BENSON LAYS FOUNDATION FOR IKORODU LG LEGISLATIVE BUILDING, LAUDS ADESHINA FOR PROMOTING LEGISLATIVE INDEPENDENCE

Yesterday, 29th April will remain indelible in the annals of Ikorodu Local Government, as Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Defence, Rep Babajimi Benson formally laid the foundation for the one-storey Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Building, dubbed Glass House.

The project is another historic legacy project of the Hon Wasiu Adeshina led administration.

The Council Chairman gave a hint about the project during the presentation of 2024 Appropriation Bill to the council legislators in January.

Rep Benson commended Adeshina for embarking on the project, which he described as remarkable, stating that the legislators deserved a befitting and friendly working environment, to enhance their effectiveness.

‘In Abuja, the Executive has deemed it fit to give us a befitting Legislative Building. That building has a chamber, it has offices and a conducive atmosphere that makes us work effectively and allows us to attract projects to our Constituencies’, he stated.

‘It is because I have a conducive place to work that is why we have been able to attract the modest projects we have brought to Ikorodu today. That is the reason Senator Abiru has been able to attract infrastructural projects he has brought to Lagos East. It is the same reason that Gbolahan Ogunleye and Aro Moshood have been able to function optimally’, he added.

Benson concluded by commending Adeshina for promoting Legislative excellence through the project.

‘For Adeshina to have done this, it means he means well and he wants his Councillors to have a conducive environment to work and use their brain power well’, he concluded.

Earlier, in his address, Hon Wasiu Adeshina commended the Councillors for their understanding and perseverance with the Executive.

He specifically thanked the legislators for working very hard to have passed about 50 Bye-Laws, inspite of the not-too-conducive working environment.

He said, ‘We have taken it up on ourselves today, to commence the construction of a chamber that will assist our legislators in performing their legislative assignments efficiently and effectively, towards achieving a greater Ikorodu’.

Adeshina noted that the project was a dream come true, having been in the pipeline for a long time.

He further highlighted some of the facilities in the building to include a legislative chamber, ten well-equipped offices, legislative library and gallery to accommodate members of the general public during plenary and other activities.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, a retired Lagos State Head of Service, Bashorun Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa disclosed that the good people of Ikorodu expects so much from the leadership under the current dispensation.

Rotinwa stated that, ‘The local government is the principal government that is closest to the people and whoever heads that government has a responsibility of meeting the expectations of the masses. Driving round Ikorodu town we can see his modest achievements and we commend him’.

‘Hon Adeshina has just fulfilled the requirements of democracy by creating independence of the Legislative arms through this legislative building project’, Rotinwa added.

A former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Ikorodu Division Apex APC leader, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye expressed delight at the project, while commending the Council Chairman for enhancing the independence of the three arms of government.
