FORMER NBA PRESIDENT AND ASIWAJU OF IKORODU KINGDOM, CHIEF B.O BENSON DIES AT 88

A former president of the Nigerian Bar Association(NBA) and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Asiwaju Babatunde Olusola Benson, fondly called B.O Benson has died.

News of the passage of the legal luminary was announced by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, HRM, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi on Thursday evening.

Chief Benson, during his lifetime was a former Secretary General of the Nigeria Bar Association before he later served as the body’s president between 1978-1980.

He was instrumental to the formation of the African Bar Association (ABA). The body came into fruition and he went on to run its affairs, paving the way for him to emerge as President, NBA (1978-80). He established his B. O. Benson Law Office in 1982 and was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in 1983.

The Ikorodu-born legal icon who became motherless at age of five would be remembered for pioneering roles he played in the formation of many Ikorodu development initiatives like the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Ikorodu Division Resource Development Group (IDRDG), Eminent Persons of Ikorodu Division (EPID) among others

He played prominent role in the agitation for the creation of Lagoon State and the clamour for the consideration of an Ikorodu indigene For Governor Campaign in 2007 and 2015.

Chief B. O. Benson, SAN was born on
July 4, 1932 and would have been 89 on July 4th, but for his sudden demise.

  1. Chief B.O. Benson, SAN was a icon in every respect of the word. A distinguished Nigerian and Elder Statesman. An illustrious son of Ikorodu. An accomplished legal luminary, a great humanist , philanthropist of impeccable character and an examplary role model.
