#ENDSARSPROTEST: IKORODU AMBASSADORS GROUP LEADS YOUTHS TO PROTEST BRUTALITY, AS FEDERAL LAWMAKER BACKS PROTEST

The wave of peaceful protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, otherwise known as SARS has continued to spread across Nigeria, since the protest broke out last week in Delta State, when some SARS operatives allegedly brutalised two young Nigerians in an hotel in Delta State, killing one of them in the process.

This has generated spontaneous reactions among Nigerians, including celebrities calling on the federal government and the Nigerian Police to scrap the SARS Unit of the Nigerian Police. The social media space have been agog with different messages condemning the action of the SARS operatives, leasing to the resuscitation of the #EndSARS Campaign protests nationwide.

Ikorodu Ambassadors Group, Ikorodu division’s leading group with over 22, 000 members online and offline has thrown its weight behind the #EndSARS protest and an end to police harassment of innocent youths in the community.

The group led hundreds of Ikorodu youths, celebrity musicians and youth influencers in a peaceful protest across major routes of the community to register its grievances and displeasure against the unethical practices of the SARS operatives.

Some of the protesters displayed different placards with messages to drive home their demands to the authority. Some of the messages reads; Bullet Against Us, I’m I The Next To Die, #EndSARSNOW, among many other inscriptions.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Founder of Ikorodu Ambassadors Group, Ambassador Rasheed Fatuga stated that, ‘Some people will say SARS should be curbed, some say reformed while some want an end to it. Some even want them to be restrained without authority and usage of ammunition, but I support the protest today, because it is time to stand tall and peacefully say no to SARS oppression, torture, extortion unlawful arrest and killings in Ikorodu division’.

‘You know if it is happening all over the nation, Ikorodu must not be left out, we need to make our voice heard. More protests will still come until our voice is heard. I support the #end SARS protest in Nigeria’, he submitted.

Meanwhile, a federal lawmaker, representing Ikorodu federal constituency at the House of Reps, Hon Babajimi Benson has thrown his weight behind the #EndSRASProtest by youths of Ikorodu federal constituency.

Benson gave the support in a statement released yesterday afternoon.

‘I am aware that the youths in my Ikorodu Federal Constituency are currently embarking on a peaceful protest to #EndPoliceBrutality. The Parliament will assiduously work to ensure actions of the Police are transparent and accountable and no one is brutalized’, he said.

‘I am 100% in support of the peaceful protest while assuring of my total commitment to the #EndPoliceBrutality cause. #EndSARS’, he assured.

This is the second time in two years that Nigerians, especially youths from all walks of life would be trooping to the street in angry protest against what they termed SARS intimidation, harassment and killings of innocent Nigerian youths under the guise of suspecting them for being internet fraudsters or cultists.
