CRITICISMS TRAIL ENDORSEMENT OF GOV AMBODE FOR SECOND TERM BY A+ DISCIPLES IN IKORODU DIVISION

Widespread criticism has trailed the recent endorsement of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for a second term in office by A+ Disciples, an Ikorodu based political group convened by Hon Adebimpe Akinsola, Ag Commissioner for Arts and Culture in Lagos state.

The group had on Saturday 28th October, at its maiden general assembly held at its headquarters in Igbogbo area of Ikorodu division commended the Lagos state governor for his exemplary leadership style and unprecedented achievements in office since 2015.‘Having watched carefully the policies and programmes of the state government in the past two and half years, in the areas of security, education, road construction and other infrastructural developments, if given a second term in office would be able to consolidate on his developmental strides’.

Convener of the group, Hon Bimpe Akinsola in her remarks described Governor Ambode as ‘a blessing to Lagos state’.

A prominent member of the group, Mr Titilayo Adegboyega, vice chairman, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for his giant strides. He cited some of the governor’s achievements to include the approval of Igbogbo mediation centre, the Scodron 6 and the recently approved construction of Igbogbo/Bola Tinubu/Igbe road as part of the governors score cards.

Meanwhile, the endorsement has sparked criticisms among Ikorodu division stakeholders who condemned the group’s action while challenging it to present any major project embarked upon by the governor in Lagos state in the entire division.

Can anyone please, mention just one major project by the Ambode-led administration in Ikorodu division, before we know what kind of music that we will compose for this kind of issue, queried Rasheed Fatuga, Founder Ikorodu Ambassadors group. Speaking further, he said, ‘To me, I call him ‘Epe Governor’ because he seemed not to be concerned by the plight of Ikorodu people. Sometimes, I just feel sorry for these party leaders, all they care about is their pockets’, he submitted.

A former house of assembly aspirant, Mr Olusegun Iluyombo also predicts that ‘history will soon repeat itself, Governor Babtunde Fashola during his first term in office concentrated in developing Surulere and Lagos Island. Until few months to his exit before he remembered that Ikorodu division exists on the map of Lagos state.

Speaking further, he said, ‘I am not surprised that the same script is being acted by the present governor. He will soon come back to solicit for our votes with lots of empty promises.

Another concerned stakeholder, Waheed Fatuga said, ‘I speak for myself, before 2018, if Governor Ambode fail to do something significant in Ikorodu, then he already lost a vote’ he submitted.
