Saturday, 26th October would remain indelible on the minds of residents of Agbede Olunla Community of Asolo in Ikorodu West LCDA, as the once deplorable road rehabilitation facilitated by Rep Babajimi Benson was formally commissioned.
To demonstrate their unreserved appreciation to the project facilitator, the community stakeholders made Benson ride on a white horse, signifying their love and adoration of his person and an express demonstration of their gratitude to him.
The historic event was witnessed by key political leaders, traditional rulers, respected monarchs, women leaders, religious leaders.
Benson acknowledged and commended the nine communities that make up the Agbede Community Development Association (CDA) of Ikorodu West LCDA.
‘Your endless support and prayers have not gone unnoticed, and I deeply appreciate every single one of you’, he said.
Benson equally thanked members of the community for their support for him and other APC Leaders during past elections.
‘Let me be clear—I am here to thank you, the people, because you are the ones who put us in these positions of responsibility. I did not vote myself into office; it was you, the members of the Agbede CDA, who granted us this privilege. Agbede CDA holds a special place in our hearts. You gave us the highest votes that helped secure our positions. You gave Hon. Jimi Benson, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Abero, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu the highest support—truly an unparalleled contribution’.
‘I understand that the people of this community have been advocating for the construction of Ita-Oluwo Road. Isn’t that right? And you’ve been asking for the completion of Agbede Road too, correct? Well, I am pleased to announce that it is done! It is accomplished!’, he proudly announced.
‘All the leaders present here today, both political and traditional, deserve your appreciation because they have your best interests at heart. Throughout my time here today, the conversations with them have centered on this road project. They are fully dedicated to making sure this community gets what it deserves’, he stated.
Benson also seized the opportunity to canvass for support for the President Tinubu-led federal government.
‘If anyone tells you the government is not working, tell them that’s simply not true. You have spoken about me constructing and commissioning 62 roads, but the reality is even greater. The government of today is genuinely in control, and my role is just to facilitate these projects’, he stressed.
He added that, ‘For the first time in history, if you check Nigeria’s foreign reserves, we currently have 60 billion dollars in banks abroad. All the debts we owed in dollars, the current administration has been paying back’.
He also announced to the excitement of the gathering that, ‘starting from next year, those among us who are struggling will be the focus of our new empowerment initiatives. This administration is determined to improve the lives of the people, and we should remain hopeful. Remember, during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first term as the Governor of Lagos State, there were initial challenges, but things steadily improved. After his tenure, people still wanted more of his leadership. Let’s keep our faith strong; progress is on the way, starting from this very moment’.
