It was wild jubilation galore at Adamo in Ikorodu North LCDA today as the Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Defence, Rep. Babajimi Benson flags off a new road construction project for the people of Adamo-Araro communities.
The new road, when completed will bring unprecedented economic transformation to about 40 Communities that would be connecting along the stretch of the road.
The formal flag-off of the construction of the long-awaited road is set to end over 30 years of neglect. This crucial road will serve as a major artery for connecting over 40 local communities within Lagos and Ogun State, bringing with it not just improved accessibility, but a boost to the region’s economic prospects.
The project, which is expected to be completed within approximately three months will feature modern infrastructure upgrades, including drainage systems and streetlights, which are designed to increase both the safety and convenience of the road for commuters and residents alike.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Mayor Deen Sanwoola, Director General of the iCare Foundation, conveyed Rep. Benson’s vision for linking up Ikorodu’s communities through better roads, thereby fostering greater economic integration and development. He expressed his gratitude for the collaborative efforts of community leaders—such as the Baales, Councillors, and the Ikorodu North LCDA leadership—that have made the project a reality.
In his words, ‘The Adamo-Araro road will not only ease transportation challenges for our people, but it will also unlock economic opportunities for the region. This project is a testament to our dedication to improving the quality of life for everyone in the area’, Sanwoola said.
Rep. Benson, who has always prioritized youth engagement in his development projects, also called on the youth of the area to work hand-in-hand with the contractors to ensure a smooth and timely execution of the project.
In further demonstration of his commitment to uplifting the critical sectors of the community, Deen, on behalf of Rep Benson also announced plans for additional classrooms at Gbaga Junior School, with a view to enhance the quality of public school education in the community.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Deola Banjo, hailed Rep. Benson for his continued dedication to the infrastructural development of the area. He reflected on the poor state of the Adamo-Araro road, which had been left in disrepair for decades, and praised the ongoing efforts to revamp the entire region. Banjo noted that the new road would not only improve connectivity to Emuren and surrounding communities but would also play a crucial role in rebranding Ikorodu North as a thriving hub for growth.
Banjo also highlighted the establishment of Gbaga Junior School, an initiative by his administration aimed at reducing the educational challenges faced by children in the area, including long travel distances. This move, he said, was a clear indication of the LCDA’s commitment to prioritizing both infrastructure and educational development.
Oba Olukayode David Raji, Eweye of Isiu, Prince Niran Ogunbanwo, Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) and other community stakeholders appealed to residents to fully cooperate with the contractors working on the project to ensure its timely and successful execution.
Ogunbanwo commended Rep. Benson for keeping his promises, noting that the completion of several road projects this year alone has been a testament to the representative’s effectiveness and commitment to the region.
As the Adamo-Araro road construction gets underway, residents are hopeful that the project will be the beginning of a broader transformation that will continue to bring much-needed development to the entire Ikorodu North LCDA, solidifying Rep. Babajimi Benson’s legacy as a true advocate for the growth and well-being of his constituency.
