PRESIDENTIAL / NASS ELECTIONS: ABIRU, BENSON, DABIRI-EREWA, OBA SEKUMADE, OTHERS COMMEND PROCESS, HAILS INEC

Prominent National Assembly candidates of Ikorodu Division origin and other eminent personalities from the Division have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the smooth running of today’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Speaking to Ikorodu Oga Radio shortly after casting his ballot at Polling Unit at Booth 11, Odugate Street, Senator Tokunbo Abiru noted that the massive turnout of voters was an indication of very high consciousness of the civil responsibility among Nigerian voters.

He therefore congratulated Nigerians for the increased political consciousness. He also commended all the different party candidates for their efforts towards mobilizing Nigerians for the elections.

‘First and foremost, I think we should congratulate ourselves. The consciousness among ourselves regarding our civic responsibility has really increased and this is evident in the great turnout which shows how the consciousness is really picking up’, he said.

He also expressed confidence in the favourable outcome of the elections.

‘I can attest to the fact that everything has been largely peaceful. And I am sure at the end of the day, we would see a full representation of the will of the people. I don’t want to predict, but I am sure the obvious is known to all of us. Some of us have performed very well. This is not the time to campaign, I am sure the outcome of today will attest to the good job we have done’, he added.

Similarly, Honourable Babajimi Benson, member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency and APC candidate in the National Assembly elections commended the seamless accreditation and voting process shortly after he casted his vote at Molatori Polling Unit Ibeshe, in Ikorodu. He equally expressed optimism about the eventual outcome of the exercise.

‘The turnout looks impressive, orderly and everybody is at peace. They are happy to exercise their franchise’, he noted.

Commenting on the accreditation process, Benson described the process as, ‘very good, smooth and seamless. My expectation is also that Nigerians will decide and decide right and vote the best man for the job’.

The Chairman, Nigerian in Diaspora Commission NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa also expressed confidence in the process, despite the delay experienced in her polling unit, opposite Ayangburen Palace in Ikorodu.

She shared her views with some journalists, shortly after casting her ballot.

‘Hopefully, we are going to be here until the vote is counted. With what INEC is doing with the BVAS, we are going to be here to count the number of people and the votes.

On the late commencement of the exercise, she said, ‘Well, it’s worth waiting. A few logístics problems but we have to wait. It is about our future and destiny. But, the thing is we are waiting for our votes to count. After waiting, we want our votes to count’, she remarked.

A prominent Ikorodu Division Royal Father, HRM Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE The Sekumade of Ipakodo also commended INEC for the noticable improvements in the accreditation and voting processes.

‘The election look more and more well organized, compared to previous elections. The accreditation and voting process is faster. With what I have witnessed here today, it is a commendable exercise. I am highly impressed’, he stated.

Nigerians are voting for a new President and members of the National Assembly across the 36 States and the FCT to replace the incumbents whose tenure would expire on 29th May.
