2025 IPAKODO DAY CELEBRATION: FORMER LAGOS STATE HEAD OF SERVICE, PRINCE SEGUN OGUNLEWE URGES SANWO-OLU TO BUILD SEKUMADE HOUSING ESTATE IN IPAKODO

A retired Lagos State Head of Service, Prince Adesegun Ogunlewe, has tasked the Lagos State Government, under the administration of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to build a housing estate in Ipakodo town, in honour of the Sekumade of Ipakodo.

Ogunlewe, who is also the Aremo of Igbogbo Kingdom, made the call in Ipakodo town on Saturday during the grand-finale of the annual Ipakodo Day celebration, held at the open space of the Lagos State ferry terminal in Ipakodo.

The retired administrator, who was the Father-of-the-Day at the event, made the call while making his remarks.

He noted that with the rich pedigree of Oba Sotonwa as a retired General Manager of Lagos State Electricity Board and former Director of Electrical Services whose office supervised the Lagos State millennium housing estate project during the administration of Late Sir. Michael Otedola, he should use his good position to lobby the state government to replicate the Ayangburen Jubilee Estate with Sekumade Housing Estate in Ipakodo.

Ogunlewe further suggested the conversion of the massive unused Voice of Nigeria expanse of land, once donated to the federal government by the community that is currently lying fallow into a residential estate.

He stressed that the proposed residential estate project would further bridge the housing deficit challenge confronting the state, while honouring the royal father and Ipakodo Kingdom as a community.

Ogunlewe equally used the opportunity to advise the Ipakodo Development Association (IDA), organizers of the annual event to develop a 5-year development plan that will drive the development of the community.

The annual Ipakodo Day Celebration is a community-wide socio-cultural event hosted by the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Engr. Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE.

The 2025 edition is the 4th anniversary of the annual celebration, which started in 2022.

Other dignitaries at the event were the Senator, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Constituency Affairs, Dr. Saheed Ibikunle and Member, representing Ikorodu Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Benson.

Others were the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Richard Ogunsanya, Alagura of Agura, Oba Moruf Ogunnaike and Regent of Ijede, Chief Aliu Musediq.

The event was chaired by Dr. Kazeem Ogbara, Asoju-Oba of Ikorodu, while the Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, Dcns. Busola Isikalu was the mother-of-the-day.
