
The Sekumade of Ipakodo, in Ikorodu West LCDA, Oba Engr. Basiru Aremu Sotonwa has stated that the annual Ipakodo Day Celebration has attracted developments to the community.
The royal father stated this yesterday at his palace during the formal unveiling of the official Ankara fabric for the 4th edition of the annual community event.
Oba Sotonwa noted that, since the commencement of the annual event four years ago, Ipakodo community has continued to witness tremendous growth and development.

The monarch specifically noted that one of the major gains of the annual event was the ongoing reconstruction of the old Sekumade Palace into a new and befitting edifice. The multi-million naira project is being sponsored by the Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPIL), under the Chairmanship of High Chief Adewunmi Ogunsanya, SAN, the Odofin of Ikorodu.
Oba Sotonwa stressed that the project which had been on his mind for many years was adopted by the IDPIL when the body’s Chairman, Chief Ogunsanya graced the 2024 edition of the Ipakodo Day Celebration as the Chairman of the occasion.

He therefore called on all sons and daughters of Ipakodo at home and in the diaspora to rally support for this year’s event so that the current trajectory of progress and development can be sustained.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Chairman of Ipakodo Development Association (IDA), Prince Sunkanmi Shotonwa thanked the community stakeholders, comprising of traditional and honourary chiefs, market men and women, artisans, youth bodies, transport unions and others in attendance for their past support.

He, however, appealed to them to join hands with his team to prosecute a more successful and memorable celebration for the 2025 edition.
Speaking in the same vein, the duo of Prof. Chief Kunle Ade Wahab, Asiwaju of Ipakodo and Engr. Chief R.O Shoderu, the Otun-Ilu of Ipakodo commended the visionary leadership of Oba Sotonwa, while appealing to all and sundry to support the monarch’s development efforts.

Similarly, the Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu West LCDA, Alh. Monsurat Paramole, who was represented by her Deputy, Alh. Fehintola assured the monarch of the support of all market men and women in Ikorodu West for the success of the 2025 edition of Ipakodo Day Celebration.
The 2025 Ipakodo Day Celebration will hold for 8-days from Saturday 26th September to Saturday, 4th October, 2025. This is unlike the previous editions, which hold for only a few days.
Shotonwa had previously explained that this year’s event is plqnned to be week-long, with a view to expanding the scope of activities.
