2023 BUDGET: IKORODU LOCAL GOVERNMENT ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS, PLEDGES IMPLEMENTATION OF INPUTS MADE

The Management of Ikorodu local government, led by Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina on Wednesday, 12th January held its 2022 Budget Stakeholders’ meeting at the Council’s Secretariat Hall.

The Stakeholders meeting was well attended by stakeholders cutting across, CDAs/CDCs, Trade Groups / Associations, Market men and women, people living with Disabilities, among others.

The event featured robust contributions from participants who pleaded with the Council Chairman to accommodate their requests in the Council’s Year 2022 Budget.

Baale Ojogbe, Chief Olomo, while commending the Chairman also remarked that, there was the need to rehabilitate the Council Secretariat road to enhance the general aesthetic tlook of the entire environment.

Reps of the CDC Chairman, Elder Ogunjimi commended the Chairman on the massive renovation of the council secretariat building, which according to him was unprecedented. He also appreciated the support of the Chairman to the activities of the CDC, particularly the presentation of a bus to the body. He concluded by adding his voice on the need to urgently embark on the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Agura-Gberigbe road, Nurudeen Owolabi and Pashoku Streets.

Raheem Waliu, Chairman of the Artisans association appealed to the Chairman to consider an empowerment programmes for artisans in Ikorodu.

Also, Mr Banjo Oyebiyi, Chairman of Peoples’ Living with Disabilities in Ikorodu local government appealed to the council chair to build ram into the council hall entrance for easy access by his members. He equally requested for the support of the council through skill acquisition and empowerment so as to reduce the scourge of street begging among his members. He concluded by also requesting for wheel chairs for some of his members to aid their mobility.

Pastor Mrs Adeyemi, an Educationist advised the Chairman to adopt the Learning Management Services (LMS) as being promoted by the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LSUBEB) to promote learning among young school pupils.

Contributing, Alh. Shakiru Animashaun, Chairman E-Standby Transport Ltd thanked the Chairman for the construction of the Sabo Market entrance and drainage.

He however requested for the intervention of the Chairman in the clearing of adjoining spaces and setbacks round Sabo market, in order to create more room for easy entry and exit of vehicles into the Sabo market and to put an end to police and LASTMA extortion of motorists.

Mr Babatunde Adeagbo, representing Omitoro Phase 5 CDA stressed the need for proper citizenry engagements, through the Councillors, so that they can have inputs into the Council’s budget to enhance the delivery of democratic dividends to Ikorodu communities.

Responding, Hon Adeshina thanked participants for their contributions, assuring them that all issues and observations raised had been duly noted for action.

He added that, for the local government to truly make the desired impact, residents should endeavour to pay their rates, particularly the TV & Radio License so that his administration can do more.

He also reiterated the need for the total rebuilding of most school buildings in Ikorodu local government, citing the instance of Salvation Army School which is in bad shape, promising to capture the rebuilding of the school in the 2022 budget.

He also noted that Arowolo Street, Itunmaja, Solomade Street, Solomade Estate and Agura-Gberigbe and Mowo-Nla and covered drainage at Itundomigoran road projects has been included in the 2022 budget for immediate implementation.

Hon Adeshina also stated that, Itundofin, Itun and Liwe Streets are getting one borehole each to to provide potable water for residents and has been included in the 2022 budget.

On Health, Hon Adeshina pledged that his administration will improve the Agura Primary Health Centre.

He concluded by promising that his administration will be providing vehicles for the Oba and other traditional Chieftaincy council of Ikorodu local government in the 2022 budget.

‘This year, 2022, Ikorodu local government is set to take ownership of the Ita-Elewa open space by fencing it so we can fully take possession and we be embarking on the reconstruction of Salvation Army School. Also, we will be working on Solomade street, Arowolo street in Itunpate and Agura/ Gberigbe road (despite being a state road) palliative measures would be completed therein. We will also rehabilitate Mowonla road, Dada Street and resurfacing of Pashoku Street, Ita-Elewa, Itumoja, Kokoro Abu and Improving the standard of Agura PHC. Landscaping of the Local Government secretariat, amongst others are some of the line up of projects for the year 2022, God willing’

The stakeholders meeting had in attendance, the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, The Leader of the Ikorodu Legislative Chamber, The Honourable Councilors, The Council Manager, All Heads of Department and Units of Ikorodu LG, Party Stalwarts and Chieftains, Royal fathers and Religious Leaders, Community Development Committees/ Association, Market Leaders, Transport and Youth Leaders, Representative of the Artisans, Ogunleye Wadesh Babes and the Gentlemen of the Press.
