TOURISM DEVELOPMENT: IKORODU LG SET TO PARTNER AGURA KINGDOM TO HOST MAIDEN ANNUAL AGURA DAY CELEBRATIONS

Less than one month after Agura Kingdom played host to the creme-de la-creme and Royal Fathers across Lagos State for the 1st Coronation Anniversary of Alagura of Agura Kingdom, Oba Ahmed M. Olakunle Ogunnaike Ogunderu, the once sleeping community is set to witness another landmark event within the year.


This is as the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has expressed the readiness of his administration to support the growth and development of the community in every area possible.


Addressing the Alh Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa-led Alagura of Agura Kingdom’s 1st Coronation Anniversary Committee who were in his office to present the report of their activities to the Council Chairman last Friday, Adeshina disclosed that his administration would give robust support for the hosting of the Annual Agura Day Celebrations.


To demonstrate his readiness and commitment, Adeshina mandated the Rotinwa-led Committee to liaise with the Agura monarch and other stakeholders towards hosting the maiden Agura Community Day Celebrations.


‘I love what I saw during the Oba Alagura’s 1st Coronation Anniversary, but we could not showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Kingdom, hence I want to charge this committee to start planning on how we can host the Maiden Annual Agura Day Celebrations to showcase the tourism potentials of the community’, said.


He stressed that, for a promising community like Agura, there was the need to project her rich economic and tourism potentials to the world, with a view to attracting private investors to the community.


Speaking on his relationship with royal fathers in the local government, Adeshina noted that, ‘All the Kabiyesis in Ikorodu Local Government are our fathers and we cannot afford to look down on them. We are partners-in-progress towards the development of our communities and Council in general. All we need is mutual respect and understanding’, he added.


Similarly, the Council boss charged the representatives of Alagura of Agura Kingdom in attendance to inform the monarch that the council was ready to commence the construction of a Police Station in the community, as a way of ensuring the safety of lives and property, once the community provides the land.


‘Iyalode, Baale and other representatives of Kabiyesi Alagura, when you get back to Agura, tell Kabiyesi to provide land for the construction of Agura Police Station. We are ready to do this as a security conscious administration. Without adequate security, there cannot be true development in Agura community’, he noted.


Earlier, Hon Adeshina expressed appreciations to Alh Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa and his Committee members for assisting his administration and the good people of Agura Kingdom to host the historic 1st Coronation Anniversary of Alagura of Agura Kingdom.


Responding on behalf of his Committee, Alh Rotinwa thanked the Chairman for entrusting him and his Committee members the responsibility of hosting the event. He equally used the opportunity to charge the good people of Agura Kingdom not to relent in giving their utmost support to the monarch, as demonstrated during the Monarch’s anniversary.


Iyalode of Agura Kingdom, Chief (Mrs) and Baale of ….. extended appreciations of Alagura of Agura Kingdom and her residents to the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government for the honour done to the community through the council’s robust support.


Some of the Committee members in attendance were, the SLG Ikorodu Local Government, Alh Lateef Afinih, Council Manager, Engr Martins Odupitan and a former Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government who doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Alh Junaid Owokodu.


Others were , Alh Rashidat Bello, APC Ikorodu Division Women Leader, Alh Lateef Oyefusi, Supervisor for Budget and Revenue and Secretary to Alagura, Prince Adewunmi Amusa.

Other Committee members from Agura who also attended the meeting were, Chief Fatai Badiru (Baale of Iponmi-Agura), Chief (Mrs.) Idowu Animashaun (Iyalode of Agura, Hon. Abideen Fasasi, Comrade Lasisi


Also in attendance was the Founder / CEO of Ikorodu Oga Radio and Consultant to the Committee, Omo’ba ‘Peju Akinyemi.
