COMMENDATION AS LAGOS EAST SENATOR, TOKUNBO ABIRU REELS OUT EMPOWERMENT, COVID-19 RELIEF AND SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGES FOR CONSTITUENTS

The Senator, representing Lagos East Senatorial District at the Red Chamber, Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru has made good his campaign promises of giving back to his constituents.

Recall that, the Ikorodu-born Senator had reiterated his commitment to uplift his consituents from poverty by floating a foundation for empowering them, if elected. He made the promise at different campaign locations across the senatorial district.

Abiru, at a strategic meeting with APC local government Chairmen at his Constituency office in Ikorodu on Saturday unveiled his strategic empowerment plans, drawing applause from the party chieftains.

Addressing the gathering, Abiru saluted all LGA Chairman for their sacrifice and support during the campaigns.

He noted that though voters turn out was low, it was still a good outing for the APC, considering that that the party polled a whopping 88% of the total votes cast in the election.

Abiru also commended the APC ward representatives and LGA Chairmen  for working hard to mobilise the large chunk of the votes for the APC, thereby ensuring it’s victory at the December 5th poll.

Abiru however noted that, inspite of the APCs victory, there were great lessons for the party and its members to learn and apply in future elections.

Giving insight into his empowerment programme, Abiru stated that he has seen the need to give back to his constituents through economic empowerment and endowment initiatives. He stated that the empowerment initiatives were a contracts with his conscience, as promised during the campaigns.

The Senator hinted that his empowerment package has been categorized as follows;

A.The Covid-19 Relief Support: This is targeted at all Lagos East 98 wards with 10 beneficiaries, making a total of 980 beneficiaries. The list is to include widows, unemployed youths, the physically challenged, aged and women who will receive a Bi-Monthly Cash support of N5,000.00.

B. Financial empowerment for LGA Chairmen, Apex Leaders, Royal Fathers, Religious Leaders who will also benefit from a Bi-Monthly Cash Transfer in an alternate fashion with the first category of beneficiaries.

According to the banker-turned politician, an undisclosed nunber of constituents will equally benefit from a free-interest loan for small businesses and traders.

Abiru also unveiled a unique scholarship fund for undergraduates in higher institutions of learning. He stated that, unlike regular scholarships, his will be coming with career mentoring and job placement opportunities for beneficiaries.

He noted that this was necessary, as he will be bringing his wealth of experience in the corporate sector to the fore, in order to position the the scholars with marketable skills.

Another unique empowerment package for youths and women, announced by Senator Abiru includes, vocational training scheme where successful participants would be provided with start-up tools and fundings.

Abiru however urged  the party chairmen to demonstrate sincerity and fairness in the compilation of the list of beneficiaries from the Ward/LGA.

Abiru also pledged his commitment to quality engagement with his constituents by opening Satelite Liaison Constituency Offices at Epe, Somolu, Ibeju-Lekki and Kosofe before the end of March 2021.

All LGA and representatives of Ward Chairmen at the event applauded Senator Abiru’s empowerment initiatives and pledged their willingness to collaborate with him to make them successful.
