History beckons on Saturday in Ikorodu Kingdom as the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi installs a retired Lagos State Permanent Secretary and former Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru and wife as Otunba Fuwagbuyi and Yeye Otunba Fuwagbuyi of Ikorodu Kingdom.

Otunba Abiru, a two-time former Chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) formally steps into the shoes of his late Uncle and Elder Statesman, Chief Adeniran Ogunsanya who was the last Fuwagbuyi of Ikorodu.

The amibale wife of the honouree, Princess Olubunmi Abiru was equally honoured as the Yeye Fuwagbuyi of Ikorodu Kingdom alongside her hubby.

The installation ceremony was a major highlight of the grand-finale of the 2022 ‘Odun Osu’, a celebration of Ikorodu Princes and Princesses by the Ikorodu monarch.

In his brief remarks before the Installation, Oba Shotobi noted that he has found Otunba Ganiyu Abiru as a perfect gentleman whose commitment and selfless service to Ikorodu was second to none, hence the honour done to him and his beautiful wife.

The installation process was heralded with the traditional Gbedu drum bear and Apepe traidtiion preceded by a traditional renditions which ushered the honourees into the Ayangburen Palace Pavilion and venue of the Installation exercise.

Oba Shotobi installed Otunba and Yeye Abiru with prayers and royal blessings for them to have a long, peaceful and prosperous reign.

Responding on behalf of himself and his beautiful wife, the new Otunba Fuwagbuyi, Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru thanked Oba Shotobi for finding him and his wife worthy of the dual honour.

He also used the opportunity to reiterate his unalloyed commitment and dedication to the services of Ikorodu Kingdom.

On the band stand was Princess Adeola Ogunmola of the De-Levites who entertained guests with her sonorous high life music renditions.

Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru was born into the renowned families of Abiru & Ogunsanya of Ikorodu. After his education, he joined the service of Lagos State Public Service in 1983 and retired in year 2016 as a Permanent
Secretary/Clerk of Lagos State House of Assembly. During his sojourn in the Public Service, Otunba Abiru transversed many of the Government Ministries and Agencies acquiring experiences which put him in a better stead in his post Service endeavors and activities.

He was at a time the Executive Secretary of the Ikorodu local government where he served meritoriously, leaving many landmark impactful in a short while.

He is a two-time Chairman of the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS) and currently the Executive Secretary of the newly-launched Ikorodu Division Peace Initiative (IDPILG).

Otunba Abiru is a member of the presitigious Lagos Country Club, Oriwu Club and Dynamic Horizon Club, Ikeja and a respected trustees of a Socio-Philanthropic organization, D-209 Recreation Club, Ikeja among others.

He is a Member of the Nigeria Institute of Management, Chartered Institute of Personel Management and Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administrators of Nigeria.

Otunba Abiru is a Coach, Mentor and Role Model to many youths across Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
