That there is an atmosphere of fresh air and the dawn of a new era in the administration of the activities of Ikorodu Oga Day, under the auspices of Ikorodu Oga Developmwnt Association, is stating the obvious.
This ,much was revealed to guests and the press at the formal swearing-in ceremony of newly elected executive members of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), led by its Chairman, Otunba Ganiu Abiru. The oath of allegiance and swearing-in ritual was administered on the officials by a former Chairman, Nigeria Bar Association, Ikorodu Chapter, Barrister SOK Shillings.
In his acceptance speech, Otunba Abiru berated a situation where the annual Ikorodu Oga Day event has lost its original flavor and glamour. He further vowed to restore the annual event to its former glory, where the entire Olubi and Owolowo streets, adjoining the Ikorodu Town Hall was agog with celebrations during the annual event.
Speaking further, Otunba Abiru also blamed past administrations for not effectively carrying Ikorodu indigenes in the daispora along, for them to fully participate in the celebration of the annual event. He also seized the occasion to appeal to such disenchanted indigenes at home, and in diaspora to forgive past mistakes and embrace the new administration, with the promise a new dawn of development and integration.
As a way of projecting the annual Ikorodu Oga Day beyond the shores of Nigeria, by making it become a tourist attraction event, like the annual Ojude Oba and Oshun Oshogbo festivals, Abiru stated that, his administration will be launching the organisation’s first official website in 26 years of the annual celebration, within his administration’s first one month in office.
‘Our people in the diaspora must be integrated in the scheme of things. But, unfortunately, what would have facilitated that is currently non-existent. In this day of technology, we cannot afford to lag behind. Our people in diaspora do not know what we have been doing for the past 25 years. This can only be made known unto them through a website which they can easily access and contribute to our developmental efforts. The current administration want to assure you that, within the next one month, a functional and dynamic website would be put in place’.
