The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu local government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina has revealed that his administration takes pride in supporting education of youths since he came into office in 2017.
Adeshina disclosed this at the presentation of education bursary awards to 100 youths across the seven wards of the local government at the council Secretariat.
‘This administration takes pride in the education of the youth at all Levels ,Technical, Polytechnics ,Vocational and Universities. Education remains the best legacies we can bequeath to the younger generations. We cannot wish away the important roles education plays to emancipated the people from Political/Economic Ignorance, squalor diseases’ he noted.
100 legible youths who are students and undergraduates of tertiary institutions were presented the award which was witnessed by notable Ikorodu community leaders and APC chieftains.
‘This event marks a clear departure from rhetoric of premises that will never be fulfilled. This is a government that says it and by the Grace of God fulfils promises made despite all odds. We called on the youth to vote for us about four years ago, with the promise to support them in their education pursuit, this we have done through provision of chairs and benches for those in primary schools ,provision of free GCE and JAMB forms to those in secondary schools. We distributed free exercise books to pupils in our primary schools’.
‘Equally, we have consistently delivered on our promise to give bursary award to indigent students every year. This may look impossible the resources at our disposal. A Yoruba proverb says; when there is a will, there must be a way. We are not lucky as Local Government and Local Council Development Areas that receive huge sum of money as Federal Allocation, but with prudent management of resources at our disposal, all our electoral promises will be delivered’ he added.
Explaining further, Adeshina noted that, ‘We have selected the beneficiaries of the bursary award to include those who are in higher institution. This largesse also cuts across young undergraduates from the seven wards that make up this Local Government. A committee was constituted to advise on the appropriate system to adopt to involve all stakeholders , especially the Legislative Arms Executive, Management, CDAs, Traditional Institutions, Religious Organizations, Youth Leaders ,Markets Leaders the physically challenged and others. The bursary is given to students that are deserving of it.
‘The conviction of our administration is that when the beneficiaries successfully and are doing well in the society, they will plough back to Ikorodu Local Government. One of them may even be fortunate to get employed at the Revenue Mobilization And Fiscal Commission and help to raise the Federal Allocation that comes to Ikorodu division’, he concluded.
Some APC chieftains at the event, including Alh Folorunsho and Mrs Bashorun were full of praises to the council boss for the support he has given to the students. They also asked the beneficiaries to reciprocate the Chairman’s gesture by being serious with their academics.
