LAGOS MONARCH COMMENDS EKO CLUB INT’L FOR SUPPORTING VULNERABLE LAGOSIANS WITH FOOD PALLIATIVES

A well respected Lagos Monarch and Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Basiru Aremu Sotonwa, FNSE has commended the leadership and entire members of a Non-Governmental Organization, Eko Club International for supporting vulnerable members of Lagos communities with food palliatives.

Eko Club International, is a Diaspora based Non-Governmental Organization with members made up of indigenes of Lagos State who reside in the United States of America, United Kingdom and other parts of the world.

The body, in fulfillment of one of its numerous welfare initiatives, embarked on its Food Palliatives Mission to vulnerable residents of Lagos State communities.

The week-long food distribution exercise which started on Saturday continued yesterday in Ikorodu Division.

The body distributed hundreds of food palliatives to hundreds of beneficiaries at the Ayangburen Palace in Ikorodu before proceeding to the palace of Sekumade of Ipakodo for another round of distribution.

Addressing representatives of Eko Club International in his palace, Oba Sotonwa commended the club for not forgetting their roots, even though they live abroad.

‘Please do not be surprised with what they have come here to do, they are all children of the house, who contributed to the growth and development of Nigeria before they travelled out of the country’.

‘As they increased in number abroad, they decided to extend their activities in Lagos, overseas. In fact Eko Club is also resident here in Lagos, at Surulere’, the monarch noted.

‘Many of the members abroad have pulled themselves together for good works and are known as ‘Eko Club International’, demonstrating involvement in the affairs of this community as well as keeping us abreast of happenings abroad too. For this reason, we must remain grateful to every one of them’, Sekumade submitted.

The monarch further appealed to the beneficiaries to bear with the federal government of Nigeria in its bid to restructure the Nigerian economy while urging them to continue to show understanding with the government economic policies assuring them that Nigerians would smile on the long run.

Oba Sotonwa also lauded members of the group for using part of their hard-earned resources to support the poor masses in the face of the current economic hardships and hike in the price of food items.

In his brief remarks at the palliative distribution exercise, Project Chairman, Dr Tayo Ogunyemi who addressed the participants on behalf of other members of the Club in attendance, noted that the group was committed to the well-being of the good people of Lagos State communities.

He promised that Eko Club International had many welfare programmes like Medical Missions in view for residents, assuring them that the Club would always look to support their well-being.

Many of the beneficiaries majorly, the aged, widows, women and unemployed youths thanked the Eko Club International for assisting them to cushion the effects of the current economic hardships in the country.
