Friday, 3rd December will remain a memorable day in Ikorodu local government area, as the council area hosted the Lagos First Lady, Dr IBIJOKE Sanwo-Olu for the official flag-off of the Second Round Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (MNCAH) Week organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Health, hosted by the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu local government, Hon Wasiu Adeshina.
A major highlight of the event was the formal flag-off of the MNCAH Week themed; Embrace Health To Get Wealth, performed by Her Excellency, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
Addressing the participants, Dr Sanwo-Olu urged the mothers to take their children’s health seriously by immunizing them, asking them to the hospital whenever they are sick and to ensure they embrace family planning for effective child spacing.
She also sensitized them on Lagos State’s campaign against sexual and gender based violence. She reiterated the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance for sexual violence and gender-based violence. She also reeled out the GBV-VRRS emergency call line (08000333333) on case of any emergency and necessary, government intervention.
Earlier in his speech, Hon. Wasiu Adesina expressed gratitude to the Lagos State First Lady for the honour of hosting the Second Round of the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Week in Lagos State.
To this end, Hon Adeshina promised to reciprocate the First Lady’s gesture and compliment the good works of her office, by opening Children’s Clinic in all the primary health centres in Ikorodu local government.
He equally commended the exemplary leadership style of the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his commitment to the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda,. particularly the Health sector which has received a great boost under his leadership.
The event also featured free health screenings and professional counselling for all manners of diseases like cancer, fibroid, Hypertension, etc.
The flag-off event was witnessed by the Vice Chairman of Ikorodu local government, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Wife of Ikorodu local government Chairman, Mrs Bolanle Adeshina, Political Leaders, Health stakeholders and Practitioners, Ikorodu local government Staffs, school pupils, Market men and Women, NursingMothers, Pregnant Women, etc.
