Following the rather slow registration of Ikorodu footbwll clubs for the upcoming Ikorodu Peace Cup, organised by Yetunde Savage, winner of the Face of Nigeria, South West pageant, the Divisional football Chairman; Alhaji Lukman Shonibare, has told Ikorodu Oga Radio sport desk that the competition will kick off next week tuesday as planned at the popular Igbogbo police barracks football field, with with the 16 teams that have shown interest and registered for the competition, among which include runner up at the 2016 Bolowotan Gold Cup, Ayomiposi Fc, E4 Fc of Owutu, Ikorodu League winners; Perfect Touch Fc of Igbogbo.
He however disclosed that some high profile teams in the division might not participate in the competition due to their engagement in NationWide League 1.
Meanwhile, Ikorodu-born Super Falcons and Dalian Quanjin of China striker; Asisat Oshoala, has been nominated for the Nigerian Pitch awards in the female category. The reigning African female footballer of the year would slug it out for the best Nigerian female footballer with fellow super falcons team mate: Onome Idi, and Desire Oparanozie.
The sport jounalist of the year award would be fought for between Super Sport Nigeria presenter, Moses Praiz, Austin Okon-Akpan; the duo of Sport presenter and Head of Sport; Channels Television, Lagos, and also sport presenter with Channels Television, Lagos, and Media Officer of the Nigerian Super Eagles; Toyin Ibitoye.
According to the organisers, the 4th Pitch Awards ceremony will come up in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, South-South Nigeria, on June 10th, 2017, hours after the Nigeria versus South Africa 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
